Experiencing British education
IACT COLLEGE is the first creative communication specialist college in the country since 1970, nurturing many world-class graduates in key positions today and who fuel the creative communication industry locally and internationally.
Together with the University of Sunderland whom IACT has partnered since 2014, the college recognised the need for more talents in the ever-changing communication industry worldwide today.
Both institutions have come together to introduce two British degree programmes; the BA (Hons) Advertising and Design (3+0); and the BA (Hons) Media, Culture and Communication (3+0). These programmes are packed with modules that mirror the evolving world of creative communications.
All modules in both programmes are conducted locally in IACT’s Petaling Jaya city campus by a team of academicians and seasoned industry professionals.
This will be fully assessed and appraised by academics from their British counterpart.
Students will have frequent guest lectures and academic visits from the university to provide them a sense of seamless acculturation in their syllabus.
The University of Sunderland was voted one of the best universities in North-East England and one of the top six universities short-listed for the “University of the Year” in the Times Higher Education Supplement Awards 2012.
The university accepts international talents and nurtures them to exude their influence globally, similar to IACT College’s position.
The BA (Hons) Advertising and Design syllabus keeps close tabs with the advertising industry today. It offers a challenging combination of both advertising and design-driven modules that seek to nurture and groom the new generation of advertising professionals.
The BA (Hons) Media, Culture and Communication offers three major options to students – Public Relations, Journalism, and Broadcasting and Digital Media – each carefully created to hone specific sets of skills, creating specialists in the chosen fields.
Both degree programmes require students to take on critical thinking skills and wide subject knowledge in order to complete their given tasks.
Students also receive consultation and guidance from lecturers who are also seasoned industry professionals.
“What I love about the programme is that you’re constantly being pushed to go further, and in the process, realise you’re so much more capable than you believe you are,” current student in the Sunderland BA (Hons) in Advertising and Design programme Valentina Ho shared.
Final year student in BA (Hons) in Media, Culture and Communication Reyna Gopal said, “The Sunderland degree programme emphasises more on thought-provoking subjects – challenging reality as I know it – which are essential in understanding the nature of media and culture.”
The University of Sunderland also offers an exclusive interactive student portal that keeps them abreast with the latest information pertaining to their programmes from supplementary module content, student-centric competitions and the university’s own expansive e-library, where students will be able to call upon many popular and rare academic titles at the touch of a button.
Senior lecturer and programme leader of BA (Hons) Advertising and Design based in UK Keith Nevens approved of the high standard of work IACT students delivered.
Nevens said, “IACT College has always produced very good graphics and in the last few years, the advertising work has taken on a whole new vibrancy and relevance, it easily competes with the standards here in the UK.”
IACT offers two intakes a year for both degree programmes in September and February, with September intake open for registration now.
It also offers diploma and foundation programmes in marketing, advertising, mass communication, media, broadcasting, film and graphic design.
IACT’s Open Days are on July 8 and 9 from 9am to 5pm.
Students can also drop by the college anytime from 9am to 6pm on weekdays, and 9am to 1pm on weekends.
