Making quality education affordable

-

FIRST City UC has an excellent track record in producing quality graduates who are able to create innovative designs and add value to people’s lives.

The institution takes pride in its design programmes that offer holistic design education – combining its experience in running UK franchised programmes for over 20 years, harnessing on the vast knowledge and teaching ability of its academic staff and complementing it with state-of-the-art facilities and equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutter and Macintosh laboratories.

At the Faculty of Design and Built Environment, First City UC offers Foundation in Art & Design programme with pathways to pursue further undergraduate studies in Graphic Design, Interior Architecture and Design and Furniture and Product Design.

During the one-year programme, students will be exposed to a general art and design education to enable them to gain experience and knowledge in practical studio work, 2D- and 3D design, research and writing skills for design.

The modules are specially crafted to develop skills in visual analysis, fundamental drawing, colour studies, research and critical writing skills.

Once students complete the course, they would be able to start Year 1 of the degree programme of their choice. Alternatively, students with strong interest and inclination for art and design can opt to pursue specialised two-year diploma programmes in Interactive Design and Interior Design.

Upon graduation, they possess an advanced standing to continue to Year 2 of any design degree programme at First City UC.

Strong industry collaboration

The faculty is well known for its collaboration with reputable universities in the United Kingdom and strong industrial linkages.

It provides real-life experience in the industry by providing the best learning experience for students, allowing them to explore and work on actual projects outside the usual theatre lectures.

For example, the Graphic Design department arranges annual overseas design study trips, during which students participate in workshops conducted by host universities.

Students’ experience is enhanced through participation in competitions both locally and internationally, where they have emerged as regular winners of design awards and accolades such as the MIID Reka Awards, Nippon Paint’s Asia Young Designer Award and more.

Zero fees to start foundation studies

Students wishing to pursue the foundation programme can take advantage of the all-in-one package offer – if they register for any foundation programmes at First City UC and commit to continue with bachelor’s degree at the institution, they would be able to start their foundation classes at zero tuition fees for the first semester.

First City UC will further give a 30% discount off the first semester’s tuition fees when the students continue their degree programmes after completing the foundation courses.

New programmes

To keep abreast with the constant changes in the industry, First City UC’s Faculty of Design and Built Environment will introduce new programmes; such as BA (Hons) Furniture & Product Design, BA (Hons) Graphic Design and BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design; in collaboration with UK’s renowned Manchester Metropolitan University.

The faculty is also rolling out its very own Master of Design Management; aimed at supporting employability and employer engagement by developing both transferable and industry specific high-level skills.

Students can enjoy this “inaugural incentive” available if they register soon.
