Nurturing future talents

-

UNDER the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), Malaysia needs 60,000 professional accountants by 2020 to transform the country into a developed nation. Thus it is critical that efforts are intensified to train more accountants.

With the objective of producing calibre accounting graduates in Kedah and Perlis, SC College with over 30 years of experience is certainly wellpositioned to complement the Government’s objective in nurturing future talents.

Located in Alor Setar, Kedah, the college was formerly known as Institut Profesional, established in 1981 with the mission to boost the professional human resources capacity in the fields of accounting and business.

Having trained and educated thousands of accounting graduates, SC College is committed to producing a competent workforce to support the country’s social and economic growth by offering quality and affordable education opportunities to high school leavers as well as working adults.

The college strives to not only deliver lifelong learning opportunities through academic and professional qualifications but also places equal emphasis on students’ wholesome development.

This is to ensure that graduates are technically competent while possessing the right soft skills for that added competitive advantage in the workplace.

Good communication and interpersonal skills are part of the teaching and learning process.

Students are encouraged to participate in industrial competitions and intervarsity challenges in order to benchmark their skills against their peers.

At the same time these challenges develop selfconfidence.

Programmes available are Diploma in Accounting and Finance, Learn Computerised Full Set Accounts, Basic Bookkeeping and Accounting, Learn Basic Costing, Learn Advanced English and English Short Courses.

The twoyear Diploma in Accounting and Finance (Pearson LCCI Qualification) comes with the promise of job stability and the flexibility to a wide choice of career options including accounting, auditing, banking, finance and taxation.

SC College is the only approved Pearson LCCI centre in Alor Setar and was voted Pearson LCCI Excellent Centre in 2016.

Full Set Accounts will prepare students for careers in the business and accounting environment with emphasis on accounting practices, computerised accounting system and financial management.

The Basic Bookkeeping and Accounting will help learners build their understanding of accounting principles for recording business transactions and prepare and interpret accounts for different types of businesses.

The college will soon expand its range of business programmes and professional qualifications such as ACCA to encompass aspects of accounting, business management, marketing, entrepreneurship and investment.

These new courses will allow students to continue their higher education without having to leave their hometown.

As a strategic academic partner of Wawasan Open University (WOU), diploma graduates from the accounting and finance programmes are entitled for direct entry to the second year of the Bachelor of Business (Hons) Accounting offered by WOU.

Other programmes available are in the field of Management, Sales and Marketing, Banking and Finance.

The July intake is open for registration.

Students from Kedah and Perlis can also take up the Online Distance Learning (ODL) programme by WOU at the college.

SC College has also collaborated with KDU University College Penang for graduates to have credit transfer to the Bachelor of Accounting (Hons), which is a dualaward with the University of Lincoln, United Kingdom.
