Work-ready busi­ness grads to boost the econ­omy

UN­DER the 11th Malaysia Plan, the es­tab­lish­ment of the Crit­i­cal Skills Mon­i­tor­ing Com­mit­tee (CSC) jointly led by Tal­ent Cor­po­ra­tion (Ta­len­tCorp) and the In­sti­tute of Labour Mar­ket In­for­ma­tion and Anal­y­sis (ILMIA) aimed at fa­cil­i­tat­ing pol­icy for­ma­tion to mit­i­gate skills mis­matches within Malaysian labour mar­ket will de­velop an an­nual Crit­i­cal Oc­cu­pa­tions List (COL).

In the lat­est COL 2016/2017, the com­mit­tee iden­ti­fied 48 oc­cu­pa­tions across six sec­tors that are high in de­mand to pro­pel the econ­omy.

The sec­tor in­cludes among oth­ers, oil and gas, fi­nan­cial ser­vices, telecom­mu­ni­ca­tion and mul­ti­me­dia, in­for­ma­tion com­mu­ni­ca­tion and tech­nol­ogy (ICT) and global busi­ness ser­vices.

The 48 crit­i­cal oc­cu­pa­tions in­clude fi­nance man­agers, busi­ness ser­vices man­agers, sales and mar­ket­ing man­agers, among oth­ers.

Cou­pled with Hu­man Re­source Min­is­ter Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem urg­ing grad­u­ates to con­sider ven­tur­ing into the en­tre­pre­neur­ial scene, school-leavers should take this op­por­tu­nity to study busi­ness.

The Fac­ulty of Busi­ness and Ac­coun­tancy (FOBA) in SEGi is the largest and old­est fac­ulty in SEGi.

In­ter­na­tional qual­ity

The cur­ric­ula are reg­u­lated by univer­sity part­ners reg­u­larly to guar­an­tee stu­dents ob­tain an in­ter­na­tional qual­ity ed­u­ca­tion in SEGi’s own cam­puses.

SEGi Univer­sity and Col­leges has de­vel­oped its own mod­ules for nu­mer­ous full-time pro­grammes, in­clud­ing Foun­da­tion in Com­merce, Cer­tifi­cate in Busi­ness and Busi­ness Stud­ies, Diploma in Hu­man Re­source Man­age­ment, Diploma in Mar­ket­ing, Diploma in Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion, Diploma in Ac­count­ing, Bach­e­lor of Ac­count­ing (Hons), Bach­e­lor of Ac­count­ing and Fi­nance (Hons), and Bach­e­lor of Busi­ness Man­age­ment (Hons).

For work­ing adults aged 21 and above with two years work­ing ex­pe­ri­ence, and who wish to earn an aca­demic qual­i­fi­ca­tion, SEGi Col­lege of­fers part-time evening and week­end classes, as well as on­line learn­ing for the Ex­ec­u­tive Diploma in Ac­count­ing, Ex­ec­u­tive Diploma in Busi­ness Ad­min­is­tra­tion or Ex­ec­u­tive Diploma in Mar­ket­ing cour­ses, for per­sonal or pro­fes­sional de­vel­op­ment.

SEGi of­fers 3+0 col­lab­o­ra­tive un­der­grad­u­ate de­grees with Univer­sity of Green­wich in Ac­count­ing & Fi­nance, Busi­ness Man­age­ment, Eco­nomics with Bank­ing, Hu­man Re­source Man­age­ment and Mar­ket­ing; Keele Univer­sity in In­ter­na­tional Busi­ness & Fi­nance or Mar­ket­ing; and Univer­sity of Sun­der­land in Busi­ness and Man­age­ment, Ac­count­ing and Fi­nance, Busi­ness and Mar­ket­ing Man­age­ment, Busi­ness and Hu­man Re­source, and Man­age­ment.

Stu­dents can opt for a 2+1 ar­tic­u­la­tion path­way to ex­pe­ri­ence study­ing abroad – two years in SEGi and com­plet­ing the rest with its univer­sity part­ner Aber­tay Univer­sity, UK.

Pro­grammes avail­able are Bach­e­lor of Arts (Hons) Ac­count­ing and Fi­nance, and Bach­e­lor of Arts (Hons) Busi­ness Man­age­ment.

Stu­dents can also choose top-notch du­alaward de­gree pro­grammes that are of­fered in col­lab­o­ra­tion with Aber­tay Univer­sity in Bach­e­lor of Ac­count­ing (Hons); Bach­e­lor of Ac­count­ing & Fi­nance (Hons); and Bach­e­lor of Busi­ness Man­age­ment (Hons) spe­cial­is­ing in Gen­eral Man­age­ment, Fi­nan­cial Man­age­ment, Mar­ket­ing Man­age­ment or Hu­man Re­source Man­age­ment.

SEGi of­fers High Achiever’s Schol­ar­ships (HAS) to stu­dents with ex­cel­lent aca­demic per­for­mance but do not have suf­fi­cient funds to pur­sue a pri­vate ter­tiary ed­u­ca­tion.

It also as­sists stu­dents ap­ply­ing for ed­u­ca­tion loans from Na­tional Higher Ed­u­ca­tion Fund (PTPTN).
