HAVE you al­ways wanted to en­ter a top UK A-level board­ing col­lege? Got the grades but do not know how or when to ap­ply? Fret not, an info ses­sion on UK’s top A-Level board­ing col­lege for in­ter­na­tional stu­dents is com­ing to Malaysia this Au­gust.

Con­cord Col­lege is an in­ter­na­tional co-ed­u­ca­tional col­lege that pro­vides day and board­ing places.

Founded in 1949, it of­fers ad­mis­sion at Years 9 up to the sixth form at Year 12. The col­lege ranks fourth in the In­de­pen­dent Schools League Ta­ble (us­ing ISC data) and 10th in The Times’ School League ta­ble (co-ed­u­ca­tional schools).

Aca­demic study is vig­or­ously pro­moted as the most im­por­tant as­pect of the col­lege. Its cur­ricu­lum is de­signed to sup­port stu­dents’ strengths while of­fer­ing a breadth of choice from suit­ably rig­or­ous sub­jects.

All GCSE (Year 10) stu­dents will study Math­e­mat­ics, English and Sci­ences. In ad­di­tion, they can choose from a range of sub­jects, in­clud­ing Art, Astron­omy, Com­puter Science, Drama, Eco­nomics, French, Ge­og­ra­phy, Ger­man, His­tory, Mu­sic, Re­li­gious Stud­ies and Statis­tics.

For those who have al­ready be­gun study­ing Latin or Span­ish, ad­di­tional op­tions also ex­ist. Sixth Form (Year 12) stu­dents can choose to study ei­ther three or four sub­jects to A-Level plus one or two sub­jects to AS-Level. Sub­jects of­fered in­clude Art, Bi­ol­ogy, Chem­istry, Eco­nomics, English, French, Fur­ther Math­e­mat­ics, Ge­og­ra­phy, His­tory, Math­e­mat­ics, Mu­sic, Pho­tog­ra­phy, Physics and Span­ish. Stu­dents are also in­vited to sit for the Ex­tended Project Qual­i­fi­ca­tion (EPQ).

At Con­cord Col­lege, les­sons are care­fully planned to en­cour­age stu­dents to de­velop in­de­pen­dence, en­gage­ment and in­ter­est.

As ex­pert sub­ject knowl­edge, teach­ers pass on their en­thu­si­asm through chal­leng­ing and ex­cit­ing les­sons, us­ing an ex­cel­lent range of re­sources.

Rig­or­ous assess­ment sys­tems mon­i­tor stu­dents’ progress fre­quently in or­der to im­prove their achieve­ment and deal rapidly with any short­fall.

The cur­ricu­lum also caters to in­ter­na­tional stu­dents with dif­fer­ent lev­els of English Lan­guage com­pe­tency.

The teach­ers work closely with the stu­dents to help them be­come flu­ent in the lan­guage, which is in­te­gral to their suc­cess in all the sub­jects they study.

Con­cord Col­lege also of­fers a rich and var­ied ex­tra-cur­ric­u­lar pro­gramme, which is in­di­vid­u­ally matched to the stu­dents’ abil­i­ties and in­ter­ests.

With ex­cel­lent ed­u­ca­tion stan­dards and su­perb teach­ing staff, it is no sur­prise that the com­pe­ti­tion to be ad­mit­ted to Con­cord Col­lege can be stiff.

With that in mind, info ses­sions will be held in var­i­ous re­gions in Malaysia this Au­gust to help par­ents and stu­dents gain a bet­ter un­der­stand­ing of the re­quire­ments and ex­pec­ta­tions the col­lege has of its ap­pli­cants. This will help them plan out the nec­es­sary ef­forts re­quired to se­cure a place at Con­cord.

The info ses­sion will then touch on the pro­ce­dures and time­line for ap­pli­ca­tion.

It high­lights the im­por­tance of cer­tain pro­ce­dures and will guide them in sched­ul­ing and al­lo­cat­ing time for the vi­tal stages of ap­pli­ca­tion.

In ad­di­tion, Con­cord Col­lege’s alumni will also share their ex­pe­ri­ence in terms of aca­demic per­for­mance, life­style as well as the en­vi­ron­ment of the col­lege, giv­ing stu­dents and par­ents a sneak peek into life at Con­cord.

The info ses­sions will be held in Pe­nang, Petaling Jaya and Kota Kin­a­balu on Aug 5, 12 and 19, re­spec­tively.

Due to lim­ited space, reser­va­tions will be on first-come, first-served ba­sis. Con­tact the re­spec­tive ASA Over­seas Ed­u­ca­tion Spe­cial­ist branches to book a place.

Walk-ins will not be at­tended to.
