Competition to look out for

-

MALAYSIAN Institute of Art (MIA) has launched the 32nd MIA Nationwide Art and Design Competition 2017 and is inviting secondary school students nationwide to participate and win a scholarship to pursue an education at MIA.

MIA organises this annual competition with the purpose of providing opportunities for talented but less fortunate students to pursue their dreams in receiving an art and design education.

Initiated in 1984, the competition is held annually with the objective to promote art and design as well as to encourage the pursuit of art and design as a career. Over the past 32 years, MIA has awarded over RM3,103,500 in scholarships to help and support more than 442 students (1984 to 2016) to pursue their studies in art and design.

This year, scholarships and cash prizes worth more than RM300,000 await the winners. This year’s participants could choose from three topics – Ocean Pollution (Pencemaran Laut), Life / Lives on Mars (Hidup / Kehidupan di Mars) and Chinese New Year Story – Legend of Monster “Nian” (Lagenda tentang Tahun Baru Cina “Nian”). These three topics aim to challenge the maturity, creativity and imagination of the participants. The competition is open to Malaysian secondary school students who are in Form 4 to Form 6 and students in private Chinese schools who are in Senior Middle 1 to Middle 3.

Winners of the competition will receive scholarships to enrol in any of the six art and design diploma programmes offered at MIA, which include Interior Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Fine Art, Textile and Fashion Design and Industrial Design.

The top 10 winners of the competition will be awarded 10 full scholarships coupled with a cash prize of RM1,000. In addition, three half scholarships together with a cash prize of RM500 will be also given out. United Overseas Bank (UOB) has been a pillar of support towards this competition for the last eight years. This year, the financial institution has sponsored RM10,000 worth of cash prizes for the scholarship winners.
