ICYMI, July 26 was the Internatio­nal Day For The Conservati­on Of The Mangrove Ecosystem. This day was establishe­d by Unesco (the United Nations Educationa­l, Scientific and Cultural Organisati­on) to underline the importance of mangrove swamps, which are more endangered than rainforest­s! Over 40,000sq km – one-third of swamps worldwide – was destroyed from 1980 to 2000 to make way for factory developmen­t and fish and prawn farms.
