MALAYSIA is seeing an increasing demand in the area of Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) with career opportunities awaiting graduates in numerous industries, such as hospitals, clinics, public health laboratories, pharmaceutical or chemical industries, biotechnology companies, veterinary clinics, public or private research laboratories, colleges and universities, transplant and blood donor centres and fertility clinics.
Even though they do not often get involved with patients, medical laboratory technologists play a crucial role in providing personal care. It is a great occupation for highly organised people.
The Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology offered by MSU College is designed to make room for students who are interested in scientific discoveries and medical research. It prepares students with a well-balanced programme comprising academic knowledge with hands-on practical skills, which will enhance students’ knowledge and skills.
The programme is a comprehensive educational experience with training and education in all levels of laboratory medicine, including Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology, Transfusion Medicine, Cytology, and Chemical Pathology.
The three-year programme aims to produce medical laboratory technologists who are competent and capable to meet the human capital needs of the country.
Medical laboratory technologists use their knowledge to perform tests that help physicians diagnose, monitor and treat diseases, identify the source of infection and chemical analysis. They can also determine the patient’s blood type and prep them for transfusion. They also provide numerous diagnostic and therapeutic information that are useful to the healthcare team.
The curriculum combines the knowledge of integrated education, health and education science lab to produce versatile medical laboratory technologists.
Upon completion, students may proceed to a bachelor programme at Management & Science University (MSU) through the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) or International Medical School (IMS).
Another opportunity for students is the progression to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme through IMS in either the Shah Alam campus or the MSU offshore campus in Bangalore, India.
