Laptops for gamers and devices for casual users

-

ACER unveiled a whole host of products, from gaming machines to lifestyle devices, as part of its new Be Cool Everyday campaign.

The gaming lineup is led by the Helios 300, which is marketed under its Predator series gaming sub-branding.

Game on

The laptop comes packed with performance-driven features such as an overclockable Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card, 7th generation Intel Core i7 7700HQ 2.8GHz quad-core processor, 8GB DDR4 RAM and a large 15.6in full-HD IPS display.

Interestingly, the Helios 300 is designed to keep its cool with the new AeroBlade 3D fan, which Acer claims has the world’s thinnest metal fan blade at only 0.1mm.

According to Acer, the fin axial blade design results in 35% increase in airflow so that the gaming experience will be smooth and much quieter than regular gaming rigs.

Other gaming-friendly features include the pre-loaded PredatorSense software which can be used to monitor the system temperature, CPU fan speed and system fan speed in real time.

The Helios 300 is priced at RM5,999. For a more affordable gaming experience, users can opt for the Nitro 5, featuring a large 15.6in full-HD IPS display, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, and the choice of either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor.

Other notable features include dual fans with Acer Coolboost technology, which allows for manual control of fan speed and cooling process when the laptop runs heavy tasks.

The i5 model retails at RM3,299 and the i7 is priced at RM4,699.

Something for everyone

While the main showcase of the event was the gaming lineup, there was still something for everyone.

The non-gaming devices were led by the ultra-portable Acer Switch 5. Similar to its predecessor, last year’s Switch Alpha 12, the 2-in-1 laptop has a fan-less design made possible with Acer’s LiquidLoop cooling technology.

According to Acer, heat is dissipated through a continual process of evaporation and condensation of liquid. This keeps the device cool and quiet even during prolonged periods of usage.

Other improvements include a new fingerprint sensor on the top right of the frame and the redesigned keyboard, which Acer says offers a more natural typing experience.

Its unique 2-in-1 design also means that users can easily detach the keyboard and operate the device as a tablet via the 12in IPS QHD (2,160 x 1,440 pixels) touch display.

Other specs include 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD (solid state drive) storage, a bundled Acer Active Pen stylus and the choice of either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor.

The i5 model is priced at RM3,999 while the i7 goes for RM4,999.

Other new products include the ultra-portable Swift 3 laptop (priced from RM3,399 to RM3,899), the 10in Intel Atompowered Acer One 10 (RM1,099), as well as the the Aspire Z24 and U27 all-in-one desktop PCs (priced at RM4,699 and RM6,499 respectively).

Last but not least, Acer fans and members of the public can take part in the company’s “Be Cool Everyday” campaign.

During the campaign period from Aug 3 to Sept 30, customers will receive one of three available types of freebies – ranging from shopping vouchers to a Microsoft Office 365 productivity suite to a 1TB external hard drive – with every purchase of selected Acer models.
