Outstanding achievement for ATC’s An-Gel

-

ONE of the oldest private law school in the region Advance Tertiary College (ATC) offers the University of London’s Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree programme.

The 3+0 course enables undergraduates to study locally yet graduate with a credible international legal qualification from “the first university that offered English Law”, the University of London.

“Attaining an LLB degree through the University of London International Programmes is indeed a prestigious achievement,” observed ATC’s chief executive office and principal Dr Danny Choong.

“It has helped launch many of our graduates into building successful careers, not only in legal practice, but also in other non-legal and highly competitive spheres, both locally and internationally.”

Analytical thinking

ATC imparts legal knowledge with the prime focus of moulding the minds towards critical and analytical thinking – an important skill that is needed to appreciate an evolving subject matter like law.

In the recent LLB examinations held in May 2017, ATC KL student Siah An-Gel won the Malaysian Laws Scholarship.

The scholarship was also known as the King’s Scholarship and is awarded yearly by the University of London to any Malaysian student who scores the highest in Year One LLB.

With the scholarship, Siah will complete the remaining two final years of her degree at King's College London.

Coming from a family with a non-legal background, Siah said her initial ambition was to study medicine.

“Law was not my initial choice of studies,” confessed Siah. “There are no lawyers in my family, and growing up, I never had the opportunity to converse with anyone of such background.”

Siah soon developed a passion for law: “I decided to take up a pre-university course,” she explained.

“Somewhere along the lines, my mum encouraged me to pursue my studies in law.

“[It] was one of the subjects I took when I did the Cambridge A-Levels in ATC and it was then that I became intrigued to the subject matter.”

Siah attained outstanding results in her A-Levels by scoring 3As.

She was then truly convinced and determined to pursue her LLB degree with ATC.

“I chose ATC because I was attracted to their internal merit-scholarship scheme,” explained Siah.

She said ATC impressed her as it placed importance on quality education.

“I had the privilege of meeting great people and amazing lecturers,” she added, “This is the place that ignited my zeal for law.”

Siah advises those who aspire to take up law to work hard consistently and be inquisitive as well as open-minded.

In September, Siah will begin her Second Year of LLB in King’s College London.

She aspires to be a litigation lawyer. Established since 1987, ATC gives individuals from all walks of life to secure a worldclass legal qualification via a viable educational platform.

Its August/September LLB intake is currently in progress.
