THE upcoming Malaysia eSports League (MESL), organised by the Mineski Events Team, will offer the largest prize pool for a local Dota 2 tournament – RM500,000.

“With MESL, we hope to develop more young talents and eSports icons such as ‘Mushi’ Chai Yee Fung, ‘Ohaiyo’ Khoo Chong Xin, ‘MidOne’ Cheng Yeik Nai and ‘Ah Fu’ Tue Soon Chuan,” said Mineski Events Team managing director Kenchi Yap.

“In the long run, we want to see more representatives from Malaysia at the prestigious The International tournament especially in 2018.”

The league will kick off on Sept 2 and there will be three stages – qualifiers, group stage and playoffs – before the grand final in February 2018.

The grand prize is RM150,000 and U Mobile, the title sponsor, will offer an additional RM50,000 if the players are active U Mobile users.

The first runner-up will be taking home RM50,000 while the third and fourth runnerups will get RM20,000 each.

The league is open to all local players. Foreigners can also take part but they must have at least three Malaysians in their team.

The matches – from the group stages onwards – will be aired on Astro’s eGG Network channel 808 and the popular streaming platform Twitch.tv.
