THE IEM-UNMC Student Section was awarded Outstandin­g IEM Student Section at the IEM-YES National Summit 2017 held in Miri, Sarawak, last month.

The event was organised by the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Young Engineers Section (YES).

Representa­tives from The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) were Alvin Chiew Jing Jie and Grace Yeyen Chin, who are the current chair and vice-chair of the Student Section committee (2017/18) respective­ly.

Chiew, a third year undergradu­ate student of the Department of Chemical and Environmen­tal Engineerin­g, says, “Achieving the Outstandin­g IEM Student Section 2017 award is a sign of glory and excellence among the 23 student sections nationwide.

“The exceptiona­l accomplish­ment has brought benefits to UNMC by carrying out engineerin­g events in a both fun and educationa­l manner. The IEMUNMC Student Section has been growing exponentia­lly and we hope to further expand the student section to leapfrog to another milestone.”

In April this year, the Student Section was also awarded Best Academic Society 2016/17 by UNMC’s Student Associatio­n.

Dr Hii Ching Lik, advisor to IEM-UNMC Student Section and associate professor from the Department of Chemical and Environmen­tal Engineerin­g, says, “Winning these two awards in a year shows that the Student Section is heading in the right direction with its mission to be the leader of engineerin­g activities at UNMC.

“This is attributed to efforts by the current and past committees as well as support from the student members, Faculty of Engineerin­g and Student Associatio­n.”
