- Louis Vuitton’s coloured Lockit Silver bracelets support the efforts of Unicef. — Louis Vuitton

LUXURY fashion house Louis Vuitton has released coloured versions of its Silver Lockit bracelet. This is to raise awareness and funds for Syrian children facing a humanitarian crisis.

The country’s conflict is in its seventh year and has reportedly become one of the largest displacement emergencies in the world. Nearly six million children in Syria are in need of assistance, while millions more live as refugees.

The coloured Silver Lockit renews Louis Vuitton’s promise to support the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef ). With each bracelet sold, US$100 (approximately RM430) will be donated to the organisation.

Since 2016, when Louis Vuitton first launched the Silver Lockit, the partnership has raised more than US$2.5mil (RM10.7mil) to help bring life-saving humanitarian support to children and families affected by the Syrian crisis.

The “Louis Vuitton For Unicef” campaign aims to raise funds in support of children who are exposed to conflict, diseases, natural disasters and other situations that threaten their safety and well-being.

Unicef provides aid to children in the form of providing safe water, sanitation services, healthcare, essential nutrition and cash assistance to families, plus the distribution of clothes and blankets during the winter months.

The unpickable tumbler lock invented by Georges Vuitton in 1890 first inspired the bracelet’s design. Since the release, it has been seen as a significant symbol of protection.

It also seals one’s promise to help children in urgent need. The sterling silver tumbler lock is now available with five different colour cord bracelets: yellow, purple, pink, cyan and black.

The launch starts on Sept 14 on louisvuitton.com, followed by a rollout in Louis Vuitton stores worldwide the next day. The bracelet will retail for RM1,150 in Malaysia.
