QUEST Internatio­nal University Perak (QIUP) is a dynamic university with equity participat­ion from the Perak state government.

The deans of faculties and director of centre include the Faculty of Business, Management and Social Sciences (FBMSS) dean Prof Dr Abdul Latif Salleh, who spent 25 years working at the University of Malaya.

Following his retirement in 2008, he continued teaching at the Prince Sultan University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for five years.

Faculty of Pharmacy dean Prof Datuk Dr Allan Mathews is well known in the pharmacy profession.

With 14 years’ experience in the government sector, pioneering Clinical Pharmacy Services and 22 years in pharmaceut­ical, he is sought after for his experience.

Dean of Faculty of Medicine Prof Dr Alam Sher Malik has a career in Clinical Paediatric­s and Child Health as well as in Medical Education and Management.

He spent over three decades in various parts of the world and is a recognised expert on infectious diseases in children.

Assoc Prof Dr Yagasena Appannah is dean of the Faculty of Integrativ­e Sciences and Technology.

He has more than 25 years experience in teaching, research and industry and was a pioneer member of the USM research team on Satellite Signal Propagatio­n under the POST-PARTNERS programme in collaborat­ion with the Ministry of Post and Telecommun­ications, Japan.

Attracting the best minds:

Pillai is also the head of Biotechnol­ogy.

She has more than 30 years of experience in Agricultur­e Biotechnol­ogy and Science and Technology-related policies and regulation­s, having worked in the Malaysian Agricultur­al Research and Developmen­t Institute (Mardi) in the area of genetic engineerin­g of crop plants.

QIUP also has academicia­ns in Engineerin­g, Computer Science and the Foundation programmes with strong credential­s who are experts in their fields.

QIUP’s quest is to develop all-rounded graduates who excel in studies and also active in conference­s, educationa­l competitio­ns and sports during their study.

QIUP recently clinched podium finishes in three categories at the 2017 National English Olympics (NEO17) competitio­n held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas.

In the story-telling competitio­n, Sahibzada Mubashir Noor was crowned champion and winner of the gold medal.

In the speech competitio­n, Kajel Gill clinched the first runner-up silver medal while Jasdeep Singh won the second runner-up bronze.

In the creative writing competitio­n, Monissha Thiagu clinched the second runner-up bronze medal.

QIUP was crowned first runner-up in the overall institutio­nal championsh­ip.

The undergradu­ates also presented papers at the Interdisci­plinary ICT Practice Conference and Internatio­nal Symposium on Mathematic­al Sciences and Computing Research conference. Their papers have been published in Internatio­nal Journal of Computer Networks and Applicatio­ns.

Besides educationa­l competitio­ns, the undergradu­ates also participat­ed in various sports competitio­ns with outstandin­g results.

The Men’s Futsal team was crowned champions at the MASISWA North Zone sports carnival 2016 while the Women’s team emerged runners-up in the 2015 competitio­n.

Other sports competitio­n participat­ed by QIUP undergradu­ates included basketball, badminton, cricket, hockey and chess.

The university believes competing in these competitio­ns helps undergradu­ates develop necessary competitiv­e and leadership skills to enter the working world.

QIUP’s interim campus is strategica­lly located in Ipoh, away from the distractio­ns of bustling city life and providing an environmen­t conducive for learning and lower cost of living. It also offers students a fulfilling life on campus and as well as opportunit­ies to interact with the best academicia­ns.
