A great draw
ST John’s International School (SJIS) with its dedicated Pre-University Study Centre for A-Level studies is a famed institution that has been churning out graduates in the field of IT, medicine, bio-medical sciences, engineering, actuarial science and more since its inception in 2010. Its academic pluck is evident in the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) exams for students to encounter an internationally recognised pre-university qualification that provides a platform for excellence. SJIS is a perfect institution to prepare students for the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level to produce top achievers.
The interpretation of excellence in academic distinction has been the foundation of the confluence between La Salle Brothers Malaysia and SJIS. With this in mind, the La Sallian organisation of steadfast tradition in education observed in 81 nations worldwide creates a penchant for academic merit. SJIS is part of over a century deep-rooted scholastic tradition that began with St John’s Institution in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Cambridge International Pre-University GCE A-Levels programme:
A revised GCE A-Level structure now witnesses the exams of Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced Level (A2) where candidates may prepare for the exams in two separate phases – this eliminates added anxiety to perform in one final exam. SJIS students capture the excitement that learning can generate in preference with ease of securing admissions into leading universities both overseas and locally in the UK, the US, Singapore, Germany, Malaysia, Australia and more.
Where countless institutions call themselves just that, SJIS does something more fundamental – funding over 30 scholarship students since 2012 who have outshone exemplified qualities within diverse capabilities. SJIS offers up to 100% of scholarship for A-Levels students. With the lowest school fees for A-Levels at RM7,500 for a minimum of three subjects, SJIS closely ingrains the ethos of “Smart Choice, Bright Future”. Further, SJIS offers a 10% bursary if proof is provided that any student or their immediate family member was a La Salle or Convent Bukit Nanas (CBN) alumni.
Cambridge International Lower Secondary (CLS):
A complete secondary experience, CLS focuses on varied exposures among well-balanced needs from students aged 12 and provides a seamless progression from primary school to allow careful monitoring of progress to excel in the lower secondary phase. “In SJIS we believe in holistic education, not solely emphasising on academic outcome but also character and personality development based on intrinsic values and sportsmanship spirit,” says SJIS vice-principal Dr Inderjeet Singh Sidhu. “CIE syndicate has up-to-date and evolving curriculum and syllabi, which attests to CIE being internationally recognised”.
With passion, dedication and the average of over a decade of experience, SJIS faculty members are a reminder that though academia is usually thought of as insular, the lecturers make learning a thing of pure zeal. SJIS is a brilliant distillation of knowledge, understanding, reasoning abilities and skills rendered with renowned faculty that stresses academic delivery. It has come to define the view of soaring result percentages year after year with SJIS’ success to garner 57% A* and A in the 2016 IGCSE exams.

THIS Aug 26, Nilai University valedictorian Elwin Heng – together with 314 degree and 561 diploma undergraduates – will receive their scrolls at the Nilai University (Nilai U) Convocation Ceremony, to be held at the university’s President Hall.
Heng cited “calm, care and comfort” as the reasons for his decision to enrol in Nilai U’s Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering programme.
“Many people would have prioritised the popularity of an institution when making the decision to enrol,” Heng explained.
Heng explained that he was looking for an institution that could give him the peace of mind and pastoral care to help excel in his engineering degree.
He pointed out that the calm aura pervading Nilai University was a key factor that had enabled him to enjoy an enriching learning experience.
“When I first stepped foot onto the university grounds, I was taken in by the beautiful campus and the peaceful aura about it,” said Heng, “I knew there and then that this campus would be my second home.”
His parents supported with his choice of Nilai University as they felt the campus was equipped with on-campus accommodation and living amenities and would be a safe place for their son.
“I was aware that Nilai U has pioneered many firsts in its curriculum but my experience during my degree leads me to summarise that the university has always put their students first,” said Heng.
He emphasised the financial assistance he received for his programme proved Nilai U’s commitment of providing education to people from all walks of life.
“The financial aid I received when I enrolled in 2013 was a huge financial relief for someone from a middle-income family,” he added.
According to Heng, that care the university showed was also present with the lecturers and staff, who were supportive of students’ academic and extracurricular growth.
“During my studies, I was encouraged to take part in activities that were organised by the faculty with its external engineering accreditation partner organisations,” said Heng.
Heng added that the activities gave him an insight into the engineering industry and taught valuable organisation skills that he would not have acquired.
“I also had the privilege of joining the Institution of Engineers Malaysia, IEM
