Excellent engineering programme

-

THE Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Industrial Technology (UniKL MITEC), located at Bandar Seri Alam, Pasir Gudang, offers the Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Hons) in Facilities Maintenance Engineering.

The degree programme is accredited by Malaysia Qualifications Agency (MQA) and Board of Engineering Malaysia.

The workings of facility maintenance are defined by the latest technology for the planning, preparation and maintenance of effective human living environment.

The programme aims to produce knowledgeable and competent professionals with excellent leadership skills, who are able to manage plants as well as to serve industrial needs in technical, facilities and safety management while respecting the environment.

The course offered is in line with the current market needs, which require skilled and semi-skilled workers in critical areas focusing on the knowledge of maintenance.

Throughout the programme, students (potential engineer or technologist) will be exposed to the concept of maintenance and how to ensure the essential equipment used in the industry are in a good condition and able to operate at optimum efficiency for a longer lifespan.

Apart from that, students will be taught to be critical thinkers, problem-solvers and independent workers as the field is riddled with challenges.

The programme combines theory and practical knowledge in the field of facilities maintenance.

This means that, on top of learning theories in the classroom, students will also experience hands-on learning in the laboratory sessions and workshops by completing course assignments that mimic real project work in the field.

Many of the equipment used in laboratories and workshops are high in quality and in line with the equipment used in the real industry.

Therefore, students will benefit from early exposure on the equipment used in high-tech industries to avoid experiencing a culture shock when entering the working world. Besides that, students will also be involved in community service and other various activities.

The required skills and knowledge that students will learn include the operation of boiler system, HVAC systems, hydraulic and pneumatic system, compressor system, bearing and rigging system, welding, heat and pump system, basic electrical, fire warning systems (fire alarm), computer maintenance management system (CMMS) and electrical control devices and safety.

The course outcome was specially designed to meet the employment requirements in the industry (automotive, oil and gas, petrochemical, electronics, heavy industry and power plant) and service sectors (hospital, government and private buildings).

Hence, graduates of this course will enjoy vast employment opportunities in the industry.

Among the jobs that should be pursued by graduates of this course are facility maintenance engineer technologist, M&E engineers technologist, boiler man, steam engineers, lift/escalator inspector, TPM engineer, CBM engineers, renewable energy and green technology engineer technologist and other positions related to maintenance.

This programme not only provides knowledge about maintenance but also a platform for students to gain professional certification such as OSHA certificates, certificates for boiler man, welding inspector certificate, certificate in energy manager or AutoCAD & Solid work certificate as an added value.

The availability of professional certificates will increase the value of graduates’ employability, keeping their career opportunities wide open.
