GLC 200 introduced

- — THOMAS

MERCEDES-BENZ Malaysia has unveiled the new GLC 200 sports utility vehicle priced at RM288,888 (on-the-road without insurance) in Kota Kinabalu.

The SUV is equipped with a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, an Off-road exterior package, 19-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels and LED High Performance headlamps.

The interior colours range from black, espresso brown to silk beige in combination with the exclusive brown open-pore ash wood trim and the Artico man-made leather dashboard.

The GLC 200 is locally-assembled, like the GLC 250 4MATIC.

It is powered by a 2.0-litre 4 in-line engine, which produces 184hp and

300Nm of torque.

Other highlights include the chrome-plated simulated underguard and the exhaust system with two visible, chrome-plated tailpipe trims and the anodized roof rails.

In addition to the striking look, the LED High Performance headlamps provide more safety at night thanks to a broad light distribution, a light colour similar to daylight and low energy consumption.

The tail lights also feature LED technology.

“As the top premium brand, we combine ultimate driving comfort, dynamic handling and great agility, as our SUVs define new benchmarks, break conventions and provide our customers with their ultimate choice of vehicle for their unique and active lifestyle,” said Mercedes-Benz Malaysia vice-president (sales and marketing, passenger cars) Mark Raine.

With Mercedes-Benz Financial, customers can get the new GLC 200 at RM2,888 per month and for the GLC 250 4MATIC at RM3,258 per month.

The monthly instalments are calculated based on 3 years tenure under Agility Financing, 20,000km mileage per annum with a downpayment of 20.34%.

To highlight the premium attributes of its SUV range, MercedesBenz Malaysia recently organised a “Hungry For Adventure” road trip in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

The two-night/three-day event had water sports like jet ski, wakeboarding, catamaran and parasailing as well as a 140km round trip from Dalit Beach, Tuaran to Mount Kinabalu Park for a jungle hike.

We drove the new GLC 200, and found lots of grip from the Pirelli Scorpion Verde runflat tyres sized 235/55 R19 on slippery, rain-soaked roads thanks to the rainy season.

There were many slow-moving trucks on the Jalan RanauTamparuli route, but the snappy throttle response and responsive torque of the GLC 200 allowed us to do plenty of overtaking manoeuvres in bad weather conditions.

The steering was communicative and precise, and the brakes are firm, and these provided pin-point accuracy as we moved into gaps in road traffic.

In summary, the bad weather in Sabah was very conducive for the GLC 200 in showing off its premium SUV qualities.
