Business degree with a cutting edge

-

ONE of the most sought-after fields in tertiary education is business.

A business degree opens up a wide range of career choices when students graduate, whether they aspire to be an entrepreneur, a boss with critical decision-making responsibilities, a financier, a business strategist or a communications manager.

Fully accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), First City University College’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences offers degree programmes in business-related disciplines.

Four of its degree programmes – BA (Hons) Business Management, BSc (Hons) Accounting & Finance, BA (Hons) Marketing and Master of Business Administration (MBA) – are offered in collaboration with the institution’s long-standing UK partner university, Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).

Students who pursue these programmes will receive two degree certificates – one from First City UC and one from ARU. This dual award mode will provide them with recognition and validation from two higher education providers.

Additionally, the faculty recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), allowing students of the BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance programme to enjoy subject exemptions.

This gives students the chance to gain a CIMA diploma in Management Accounting (CIMA Dip MA) while still studying.

With a First City UC degree and the CIMA Dip MA, students need only sit for eight CIMA examinations to obtain the CIMA Professional Qualification, which accords the recognition as Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).

Starting this month, the faculty is also offering new degree programmes, including the BA (Hons) International Business and Bachelor of Business with Psychology (Hons), specially crafted to respond to the needs and demands of the industry.

Students benefit from lectures by visiting professors and guest speakers to broaden the scope of their subject knowledge.

There will be field trips, research and consultancy projects, and the development of soft skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration.
