The annual Bon Odori Festival, which was originally celebrated in Japan in the 15th century to honour the spirits of ancestors, has become a celebratio­n for families to reunite and enjoy the summer holidays together. This year’s event, its sixth, is in conjunctio­n with Malaysia and Japan’s 60th year of diplomatic relations.

This will be a fun-filled celebratio­n, with a parade, cultural performanc­es, art and food stalls, and a fireworks display.

Organised by the National Cancer Council (Makna), the Founder’s Night Run (on Sept 30) aims to bring people together, as a show of support for cancer patients and survivors, and to bring more attention to the cancer cause. It also aims to encourage people to practise a healthy lifestyle. This run is for serious runners and fun runners alike. The categories are the non-competitiv­e 5km and 12km, and the 21km half marathon competitiv­e run (open and veteran categories).

The KL Internatio­nal Jazz Festival, now into its sixth year, continues to present some of the best jazz talents from the four corners of the earth.
