The annual Bon Odori Festival, which was originally celebrated in Japan in the 15th century to honour the spirits of ancestors, has become a celebration for families to reunite and enjoy the summer holidays together. This year’s event, its sixth, is in conjunction with Malaysia and Japan’s 60th year of diplomatic relations.
This will be a fun-filled celebration, with a parade, cultural performances, art and food stalls, and a fireworks display.

Organised by the National Cancer Council (Makna), the Founder’s Night Run (on Sept 30) aims to bring people together, as a show of support for cancer patients and survivors, and to bring more attention to the cancer cause. It also aims to encourage people to practise a healthy lifestyle. This run is for serious runners and fun runners alike. The categories are the non-competitive 5km and 12km, and the 21km half marathon competitive run (open and veteran categories).
Registration closes on Sept 14 or when registration reaches 5,000.

Jagadhatri features Malaysian songbird, Bhavani Logeswaran. This thematic vocal recital, comprising musical offerings of divine stotras, mantras and chants set to various therapeutic ragas, is in praise of the Goddess Kali. The recital also features Dr C. The KL International Jazz Festival, now into its sixth year, continues to present some of the best jazz talents from the four corners of the earth. This year’s show-stopper is tenor saxophonist, Eric Wyatt.
