JETsatonabenchintheplayground. He was unhappy becausehedidnothaveanew laptop. He had an old and lagging computer that did not work very well for his university projects or homework.
He was frustrated because hedidnothaveenoughmoney to buy a new laptop.
He stood up and saw an old lady sitting across the playground with something on her lap.Itwasabeautifulnewlaptop!ThatwasjustwhatJet needed.
Jet stared at her and thought to himself enviously, “Why would she need a laptop? After all, she is an elderly woman.”
Jet knew he could snatch the laptop away without the old woman noticing. Suddenly, cars started honking. The old lady glanced over to see what was happening.
Jet took the opportunity to grab the laptop from the woman. He ran away, clutching the laptop.
The next day, Jet tried to use the laptop for a project. But he felt terribly guilty.
He couldn’t even bring himself to look at it. He used his old computer but the laptop was just right next to him.
When his friend came over for dinner, Jet tried to hide the laptop.Hedidnotwantanyone to find out about it. He was extremely embarrassed.
As the days passed, Jet became unhappy.
He was always in a bad moodanddidnotworkhard on his university projects.
Jet finally decided he couldn’t stand it anymore. He returned to the playground, hoping to find the elderly lady and return her laptop. He wait- ed and waited, but she did not come.
On the way home, he donated the laptop to a charity for children.
Jet realised stealing the laptop was not worth it. When you steal something, it loses its value. Jet knew he had made a mistake. He regretted it. It was a valuable lesson he had learnt. – By Hazel Lim, 11.
