Seeing another side of Gold Coast
Australia’s Gold Coast offers a lot of choices for any type of traveller, including groups.
YOU might have some preconceived ideas of what travel in the Gold Coast is all about. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Did you know that the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, is also home to majestic sea creatures, beautiful, sandy beaches and breathtaking mountain ranges?
Whether you’re on a romantic escapade or a fun-filled getaway with friends, experience a different side of the Gold Coast with these four activities:
Ride the waves
Get some fast and furious action by jetboating! A jet boat is a small boat with an engine that ejects a powerful jet of water. As such, the boat is thrust forward with incredible speed, allowing it to make 360° spins, high-speed drifting and other adrenaline-pumping manoeuvres. Paradise Jet Boating claims their jet boats are faster, more manoeuvrable and feature the highest levels of safety, comfort and performance.
Have a whale of a time
If you’re visiting the Gold Coast between June and October, a whale-watching cruise is highly recommended. It’s really awesome to see these majestic creatures glide through the water, set against Gold Coast’s gorgeous skyline. No words can describe the feeling of watching these magnificent humpbacks leap and twirl about, wave their pectoral fins and slap their tails in the water. Keep an eye out for dolphins, too, as they are often close by the whales.
Dive deep
If you want to see more glorious sea creatures, head over to Moreton Island and Tangalooma Wrecks. Paradise In Dolphins offers a package tour including both attractions. Moreton Island is home to a variety of wildlife such as bottlenose dolphins, dugongs and loggerhead turtles. Pay attention as the marine naturalists give educational and entertaining commentaries about marine mammal behaviour and Moreton Island’s history.
Nearby is Tangalooma Wrecks, home to an array of vibrant coral and sea life. Take a guided snorkeltour through the wrecks and keep an eye out for rare creatures such as wobbegong, also known as carpet shark, as its appearance blends in with the ocean floor.
Explore the hinterland
Besides water activities, there are loads to experience inland of Gold Coast. Did you know picturesque mountains and forests are a big part of the Gold Coast hinterland? Explore them at Springbrook and Natural Bridge on a four-wheel drive. Southern Cross 4WD Tours offers a half-day trip, visiting various spectacular sites including five scenic waterfalls. Conclude your trip with afternoon tea at a charming, cosy restaurant.
