AS the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V watched the parade during the recent National Day celebrations, the joy and harmony on display must have particularly pleased him.

This is a meaningful year for His Majesty and the rakyat, as the installation of the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong took place in April this year, and the nation celebrated its 60 years of independence on Aug 31.

Malaysia is a nation that has proven to the world that diversity is not an obstacle to peace and harmony.

“As proven, various ethnic groups observing different faiths, culture, and lifestyle can live together in peace and harmony,” His Majesty said in his Royal Address at his installation ceremony.

Respecting each other is critical in maintaining a peaceful environment. Therefore, Sultan Muhammad V wants to see a continuous show of unity, tolerance and understanding in the plural society of Malaysia.

“As such, uniqueness is the source of our strength,” he added.

Sultan Muhammad had also rightfully pointed out that maintaining sovereignty is a collective responsibility.

“For the sake of our beloved country, let us together safeguard Sultan Muhammad V observing the parade during this year’s National Day celebration at Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 31. Also present are Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zahid Hamidi and Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

our honour and dignity,” he said.

His Majesty expressed hope that Malaysians would uphold good moral values and high ethical standards.

He wants Malaysians to realise their responsibilities towards the country, and live with dignity and embrace good mannerisms.

On the economy, Sultan

Muhammad V remained optimistic despite the current global economic slowdown.

The Government had taken specific measures to counter external pressures on the Malaysian economy, especially in making sure that the ringgit stays strong, he noted.

He also expressed pleasure in seeing the rakyat supporting strategies undertaken by the Government to overcome the economic challenges.

“We would not be able to go far if we did not collectively support the initiatives taken to revive the economy,” he added.

People must realise that initiatives undertaken by the government of the day are drawn for the benefit of the future generations. Quality human capital development is also a much needed catalyst for growth, as it enhances productivity, competitiveness, and capability in capitalising on advantages as well as available resources.

“Quality human capital is a key indicator for progress,” he added. The King called on the younger generation to equip themselves with various skills and knowledge so that they can capitalise on their competitive advantage.

“The onus is on every citizen not to neglect their roles and responsibilities in helping to drive the nation forward,” he said.

Sultan Muhammad V prayed for the beloved nation to continue enjoying peace and prosperity.

“May Allah keep the nation safe from danger and disaster,” said His Majesty.
