Chic in the city
FASHION designer Datuk Zang Toi has been selected by Us Weekly editors as one of this year’s “most stylish New Yorkers”.
Every year, Us Weekly and usmagazine. com honour notables in the Big Apple who make the city so chic. From celebrities to designers and industry insiders, this annual event brings together stars in entertainment, fashion and beauty during New York Fashion Week.
The award has previously been given to Heidi Klum, Pharrell Williams, Adriana Lima, Coco Rocha, Padma Lakshmi and Andy Cohen.
As an honoree, Zang, 56, was invited to the event held yesterday at The Jane Hotel.
It was hosted by Zayn Malik, a singer who is no stranger to making fashion statements himself.
“It was a great honour to be named one of the most stylish New Yorkers,” enthused Zang via email to Star2. “I love New York, and consider it my adopted home!”
Zang described his style as uniquely his own, comprising his signature House of Toi mini kilt and expertly tailored suit made of couture silk shantung.
Kelantan-born Zang left Malaysia at the age of 18, and attended Parsons School of Design in New York. His clientele includes Melinda Gates, wife of Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, actresses Kirstie Alley and Eva Longoria, and singer Fergie of Black Eyed Peas. He recently opened his first store in New York, located at Lexington Avenue.
