ICOM’s music to your ears

-

THE International College of Music (ICOM) announced its first ever offer of Early Admissions Tuition Subsidy of RM10,500 to prospective students who apply to the Foundation in Music (FIM) programme between now and Oct 27 for enrolment in the January 2018 semester.

ICOM’s dean of enrolment Ng Siew Kim said, “This exclusive limited offer tuition subsidy is to encourage and attract Malaysia’s talented young musicians to study for a music degree at ICOM.”

FIM is a one-year programme of three equal trimesters that prepares students for either a US or UK music degree.

Students will learn ear training, contemporary harmony, music theory, Blues improvisation, private instruction in a principal instrument, group performance skills and music technology.

Strong foundation

“Building a strong foundation in music is essential to developing core knowledge and skills to attempt degree level courses in music composition, arranging for small bands and orchestra, jingle writing, scoring music for visuals, music production and music business and management,” said Ng.

Students who complete the foundation programme have an option to apply to ICOM’s 3+0 Bachelor of Music (Hons) in Professional Music, a programme validated by the University of Wolverhampton, UK.

Alternatively, students can also opt to transfer all credits earned in the FIM to any of the 12 different majors at the famous Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts in the US, via ICOM’s exclusive curriculum articulation agreement with Berklee.

There are two things that set ICOM apart from other colleges and universities offering music degree programmes.

The first is that the degrees are internationally recognised.

The branding of Berklee, ICOM and the University of Wolverhampton opens doors to professional music jobs globally and also paves a smooth pathway to international graduate and postgraduate degrees.

Full potential

The second is the academic rigour of the famed ICOM education experience, which challenges students to achieve their full potential.

“Our music programmes attract students from across Malaysia and over 20 countries, including Australia, Russia, South Korea and Yemen. This diversity of musical talent and styles adds to the ICOM education experience,” added Ng.

The Early Admissions Tuition Subsidy is available to all students, both domestic and international, applying to the FIM.

The general terms and conditions of this exclusive offer require students to complete their online application early by Oct 27 and confirm their offer of enrolment by Nov 15 for placement in the January 2018 semester.

The entry requirements for the programme are minimum five SPM credits (or equivalent) and a live audition or submission of a performance video of three music pieces, each in a different music style.

■ Parents and students interested in this special offer of tuition subsidy are urged to contact ICOM admissions counsellors at 03-4023 6000 or admissions@icom.edu.my.

Alternatively, log on to www.icom.edu.my or visit ICOM at Lot 126, Section 85A, Lorong Setapak, Kuala Lumpur on weekdays between 9am to 6pm.
