GOOD news for fans of the Galaxy Note series – there’s a new Note in town.

According to Samsung Malaysia Electronics product marketing head Julian Thean, the Galaxy Note Fan Edition is a new device that was assembled using unused components from the Note 7.

This is also part of Samsung’s commitment to lessen their carbon footprint and be environmentally-friendly, he said.

In essence, the Galaxy Note FE boasts the same features and specs as the Note 7, except that it now sports a smaller battery capacity at 3,200mAh.

The company took pains to stress that the devices have undergone Samsung’s 8-point safety check and is fully compliant with the safety standards of the relevant industry and regulatory bodies, all to give Note users that extra peace of mind.

Despite the comparatively smaller battery, the Note FE is still very much a flagship device that ranks high up among the rest of Samsung’s Galaxy range of smartphones.

For instance, it’s powered by the company’s top of the range Exynos 8890 octa core processor and has a large amount of memory with 4GB RAM on board.

Being a Note device, the display is suitably big with a 5.7in QHD (1,440 x 2,560 pixels) Super Amoled screen. It also sports a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel frontfacing camera.

Of course, a Note device would not be complete without the iconic S-Pen, which allows users to jot down notes and sketch some artworks on the go.

“We have lots of Note followers who call themselves loyalists, who are also looking to get their hands on a new Note and this device is for them,” said Thean.

Other features include an iris scanner and front fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication, the virtual intelligent assistant Bixby, fast charging, and IP68 water and dust resistance.

The Note FE will go on sale nationwide on Oct 25 at the recommended retail price of RM2,599. Two colour options are available namely Coral Blue and Black Onyx.

It’s worth noting that the Note 7 retailed at RM3,199 when it was launched last year while the latest Note 8 currently retails at RM3,999.

According to Samsung, Malaysia is one of the first SouthEast Asia countries which will be getting the device after the company’s home base of South Korea.
