Prebiotics benefits of MGO Manuka honey

-

THOSE suffering from bloating, indigestion, bowel irregularity need to pay attention to their digestive system needs.

Bloating – accompanied by bowel irritability – is one of the most common digestive complaints.

Many factors cause these symptoms, but a “strung-out” nervous system and chronic bacterial overgrowth may be causes of digestive bloating and dysfunction.

A stressed nervous system is not geared for proper digestive function.

Normal digestive processes are inhibited when the sympathetic nervous system is active, what is known as the “fight-or-flight” response in today’s hectic, demanding world.

This means food is not processed or eliminated efficiently, and pathogenic bacteria multiply, leading to ongoing digestive disturbance.

A healthy digestive system has its own beneficial bacteria and other micro-organisms living in the gut.

These are essential for health, but there are some potentially damaging if not kept under control.

The balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut is influenced by what is consumed and stress.

Refined processed foods promote overgrowth of the bad bacteria while prebiotics feed good bacteria.

Prebiotics are foods human body cannot digest but are vital to support the growth of beneficial bacteria and maintain a healthy digestive tract.

MGO Manuka Honey has proven to support good digestive health, wound healing and healthy skin.

In December 2007, the Crop and Food Research Institute in New Zealand reported high levels of antibacterial activity in Manuka honey eliminates pathogenic bacteria in the gut.

It also acts as a prebiotic, increasing growth of good gut bacteria and improving the body’s natural defences.

In 2006, scientist from the Technical University of Dresden in Germany and chairman of Germany’s Federal Food Chemical Society Prof Thomas Henle discovered that honey from the Manuka flower contains a natural antibacterial compound – nutritional methylglyoxal (Journal of Molecular Nutrition and Food Research, January 2008).

Methylglyoxal levels can be reliably measured and scientifically proven.

It is a measure of antibacterial property according to New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI).

A zero or low methylglyoxal level means the honey is not genuine Manuka or has only a very small amount of Manuka honey blended with others.

The higher the methylglyoxal level the higher the antibacterial strength.

MGO Manuka Honey is the only food in the world to show significant amounts of nutritional methylglyoxal content compared to other types of honey.

Manuka Health was the first company in the world to produce Manuka honey of varying potency, graded according to its methylglyoxal content.

MGO Manuka Health measures methylglyoxal content using standards developed by the Technical University of Dresden.

Aside from honey in its natural form, Manuka Health has formulated an all-natural toothpaste that incorporates both bioactives New Zealand propolis and Manuka honey.

Research show propolis is effective against organisms infecting the mouth and throat.

While Manuka honey protects against a broad spectrum of bacteria and proven to treat gingivitis, periodontitis and plaque.
