Adiwiraku is about to take flight in Tokyo
AFTER being busy with filming in the past years and having to skip on celebrating Deepavali with the family, the newlyawarded Best Actress Sangeeta Krishnasamy was able to do just that this year.
She had finished a couple final scenes for Oh! My English as well as next year’s Tamil feature, Vedigundu Pasanga, giving her a bit of a break to be with her family on the festival day.
“Next month, I start shooting on Ghaz Abu Bakar’s new TV series Banteras,” she shared in a phone interview.
But before that, Sangeeta will be attending the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) where Adiwiraku (which was awarded Best Film at the recent Malaysia Film Festival) will be showcased.
“I will be there with (director) Eric Ong and (writer) Jason Chong. We’re flying to Tokyo on Oct 24. There will be a screening and a Q&A session.”
Although the 2014 film Sangeeta starred in, Vennira Iravuggal did travel to the Norway Film Festival, this is the first time Sangeeta will be experiencing the international film festival vibe.
“I didn’t get to attend the Norway Film Festival, so this will all be new,” she said.
For her red carpet appearance, Sangeeta plans to wear an Ardana Haran saree.
“The TIFF sent us an e-mail congratulating us on our win at Malaysia Film Festival,” added Sangeeta. “I still can’t believe that the film won that night. We were the underdogs; how did we beat films like Redha?
“I remember we went around thanking everybody and were the last people to leave the hall. We’re very proud of the movie.”
Asked what she hopes the award will bring for her future in the industry, the actress said: “I never expected an award when I started acting – I love acting, I find it therapeutic. The fact that I got this award is a bonus.
“Since receiving the award, nothing has changed with me. But things are changing around me. I think people are taking me more seriously as an actor now. Hopefully it will open
up more roles.”
