Exciting upgrades

PROTON’S popular Iriz hatchback has been refined and now offers more oomph.

With improved Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) control and better fuel efficiency, the Iriz rewards buyers with more bang for the buck.

Aside from an Eco-Drive Assist Indicator, the engine control unit had been retuned for improved linear response and driveability.

The new Iriz comes in four variants – the 1.3L Standard manual and continuously variable transmission (CVT), 1.3L Executive CVT and 1.6L Premium CVT, priced from RM43,800 to RM58,800.

The 1.3L Executive variant also receives an upgrade in the form of push-start button which was previously only fitted in the 1.6L variant.

This hatchback is available in two new colours of Ruby Red and Carnelian Brown, apart from the existing Iriz colours of Graphite Grey, Atlantic Blue and Cotton White.

The transformation of Iriz came about after Proton launched the new Persona in August last year.

The new Persona featured better NVH control and lower fuel consumption, and Proton was asked if the Iriz can be made to be as good as the Persona since both vehicles are based on the same platform.

Proton engineers took the challenge and the result was a new Iriz that is superior and more responsive.

The 1.6L Premium variant was made even more unique with a two-tone exterior colours where the roof, spoiler and side mirrors are black.

For the interior, Proton has added red stitching to the leather wrap steering and seats, making the Iriz sportier and more stylish.

Despite these improvements and refinements, there is no compromise on the safety standard and security features of the Iriz.

The hatchback is known for its tough steel body structure which is made with Hot Pressed Forming (HPF) method.

It has 5-Star Asean NCAP rating for all variants, equipped with comprehensive active and passive safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Traction Control System, Brake Assist, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Hill-Hold Assist, ISOFIX and top tether, as well as six airbags for the Premium variant to ensure optimal protection for both the driver and passengers.

For its class, the new Iriz is the most affordable 5-star Asean NCAP car in the region.

Since its debut in September 2014, Proton has sold more than 45,000 units of the Iriz, making it the second best-selling Proton car since its inception, after the legendary Saga.

The Iriz had also bagged numerous awards such as Compact Hatchback Car of the Year and the People’s Choice Award at the NST Car of the Year 2014, Best Industrial Design 2015 by Intellectual Property Corporation, Most Affordable 5-Star Asean NCAP Car in Malaysia at the Asean NCAP Grand Prix Award 2016 and Budget Car Of The Year at the 2016 Asean Car of The Year Awards.

Its latest accolade was the Best Compact Hatch in CarSifu Editors’ Choice Awards 2017 which was won by the Iriz 1.6-litre Premium CVT variant.
