WORLD Cities Day promotes the international community’s interest in global urbanisation by accelerating cooperation among countries to meet opportunities; addressing challenges in urbanisation and contributions to sustainable urban developments around the world.

Being the entrusted City Builder of Cyberjaya, Setia Haruman together with the key stakeholders of Cyberjaya, have elevated this hub to the next level and has put in place a vision and benchmark to transform Cyberjaya into a technology-driven liveable city.

This is to ensure its continued growth and evolution in becoming one of the most vibrant cities in the Asean region for people to Work, Live, Study and Play.

Cyberjaya, Malaysia’s Capital of Creation is a fast-moving global tech-hub, built on the pillars of smart city and living lab, that empowers the community via the provision of a complete ecosystem.

Bearing the responsibility of building Cyberjaya into a liveable Smart City that will attract new investors and the public at large, innovative strategies and investments are needed to promote a sustainable development that is not only progressive and modern, but also conscious of the environment.

With 48% of land dedicated to green space and amenities, including 400 acres of natural wetland lakes, sustainability is the keyword for Setia Haruman.

This will ensure the promotion of green technology initiatives.

The master plan includes going green and reducing the overall environmental impact.

One direct result of this is seen in bird migration, which only happens here due to the planting of certain fruit trees.

Additionally, most office buildings in Cyberjaya are equipped with district-cooling system (DCS) for energy-efficiency.

There are also a total of 15 electric vehicle charging stations to date, the largest number in one development.

Furthermore, bike-sharing concept had recently been introduced and gaining positive traction from the community.

When it comes to communication, Setia Haruman via its Setia Haruman Technology subsidiary, together with Cyberview Sdn Bhd and the state government, have created a borderless communications community by enabling WiFi in all populated areas within the city.

Safety within Cyberjaya is ensured with the close monitoring of all populated and residential development areas via CCTV that is connected to the stateof-the-art Cyberjaya police station.

In line with this year’s theme of ‘Innovative Governance; Open Cities’ that highlights the importance of urbanisation as a source of global development and social inclusion, Setia Haruman’s vision is to be the builder of cities that shapes the future of communities.

Having invested over RM2.8bil to build the infrastructure in enabling a quick ‘plug-and-play’ implementation, Cyberjaya is one of the few urban townships with world-class infrastructure that is 85% complete.

For future developments, there are still over 600 acres of freehold land available to support its growth.

Cyberjaya has also received strong support from companies and start-ups from major stakeholders such as MDEC, Cyberview and MaGIC.

Drawing from the relevant stakeholders, supporters and incentive drivers enriches and enhances the business ecosystem of Cyberjaya.

When it comes to talent, Cyberjaya has an extensive pool of highly skilled talent that draws from five universities and four colleges within the locality as well as the experienced professionals and skilled workers from over 40 multinational companies and over 400 MSC status companies.

In the face of new changes and trends, Setia Haruman is open to exploring new opportunities and innovative technology.

Innovation-driven strategies and investments are needed to move towards a much more sustainable development in future.

To date, Setia Haruman has incorporated reliable and viable infrastructures to ease implementation of new technologies and applications, especially in utilising Internet of Things (IoT) platforms — the 250km dark fibre, which operates on an open network access complements the requirement of international companies currently operating in Cyberjaya.

Also, with the implementation of 22 units of 4G LTE cellular towers, mobility coverage within Cyberjaya is enhanced and incidences of dropped-call rate (DCR) have been eliminated.

A long-range wireless technology, the LoRa network system is one of the first implementations of its kind in the Asean region, an initiative via Cyberview Sdn Bhd and Atilze.

The network connects sensors and applications for the implementation of IoT projects.

Setia Haruman Technology has also embarked on tech-driven and IoT projects.

It provides services that include super-fast speed and affordable broadband of 1Gbps to both commercial and residential areas.

One major challenge encountered is in convincing people to live in Cyberjaya, which is only just 30 minutes away from Klang Valley and Greater KL.

To encourage potential community members, a positive environment has been created to provide comfortable living with conveniences by combining integration and coordination with partners and investors to tackle issues.

The issues include transportation and transportation infrastructure development, employment, affordable residential properties, energysaving and green technology initiatives as well as the establishment of education and healthcare amenities.

With all these in place,

Setia Haruman is set towards achieving its vision and goals to elevate Cyberjaya into a Smart Liveable City where people Work, Live, Study and Play.
