Recognition of excellence
SEVENTY-nine Monash University Malaysia students were recognised for their academic achievements at the Scholarships Award Ceremony in September.
“This is always one of the most pleasurable parts of my job – to give away scholarships to excellent and deserving students here at Monash University Malaysia. I want to emphasise that for those receiving scholarships, it’s a really significant and special achievement because you are receiving a scholarship from a university that consistently rates in the top 100 in the world. That is something to be proud of. I acknowledge your achievements,” said Monash Malaysia President and pro vice-chancellor (Interim) Prof Andrew Walker.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was when two former scholarship recipients, Eugene Ng Chan Ee and Ng Boon Junn, both from the School of Engineering, shared how receiving the scholarships had helped them.
Eugene said: “The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation has changed my life. It has enabled me to pursue tertiary study in this recognised and multicultural university. Studying in Monash is an extraordinary experience. I have learned to think critically, and improve my social and study skills”.
He also shared that his life’s goal is to study hard and eventually make discoveries that will benefit mankind.
Echoing similar sentiments, PhD student Ng Boon Junn said, “Six years in Monash and I’m a changed person. What I learned throughout my postgraduate life is that sometimes life is going to hit you in the head with a brick. I am lucky to have been awarded the Merit Scholarship to pursue my interest in the technology of green energy generation”.
Monash University Malaysia offers a range of scholarships for new and continuing students undertaking undergraduate as well as postgraduate study.
These scholarships are offered to high achieving, academically meritorious students, inviting them to enjoy the Monash experience:
Monash High Achiever Award
Open to all pre-university students for all undergraduate courses except Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and the Bachelor of Pharmacy.
Jeffrey Cheah Foundation – Monash Equity Scholarship
Designed to assist selected financially deserving students, this scholarship covers full tuition fees for all undergraduate courses, except Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and the Bachelor of Pharmacy.
Monash Pharmacy Excellence Scholarships
Especially for the Bachelor of Pharmacy programme, this scholarship will provide either a 25% or 50% tuition fee waiver for the entire four-year duration.
Monash MBBS Busaries
Limited only to 20 recipients in the 2018 intake. This bursary will provide recipients with a total of RM50,000 for the duration of their course at Monash Malaysia.
Monash Sports Scholarship
Designed to support talented athletes the scholarship aims to provide financial assistance to students representing the university and Malaysia in sports.
