Practicality meets luxury

-

WHAT are the things to consider when you shop for a new dining table? The three most common things are the size and shape, a suitable design concept and, perhaps more importantly, the type of material used in the construction.

The number of intended users and layout of the dining area can easily determine the size and shape of the table. The design of the dining set should be practical and blend easily with the decor. The dining table is also less often replaced as compared to other furniture – this means a good quality dining table can be a worthy long term investment.

What makes a good dining table? The answer is simple – a table that is durable and easy to maintain. The durability and ease of maintenance is a result of the type of material used for the tabletop. Various materials like glass, natural or reengineered wood and stone are a few popular choices. Polished stone tops add a sense of elegance and luxury to interiors. Unfortunately, softer stones are prone to scratches and not easy to maintain.

The hardness of the stones are measured by the Mohs hardness scale – the higher the number, the harder the stone. Quartz stone, being in the region of around 7 Mohs is one of the hardest material suitable for dining tops after marble (3-4 Mohs) and granite (6.5 Mohs). Thanks to its natural hardness, quartz stone is regarded as a superior material selection for tabletops.

Cellini Design Center carries a line of quartz stone top dining designs available in various sizes and shapes. The Max and the Kay series tables in the combination of stone top with walnut wood veneered legs and stone top with powder coated steel legs are on display at its showrooms. Attractive promotion prices for a set of table with four designer chairs start from RM4,398.

The showrooms are in Mid Valley (03-2283 6505), 1 Utama (03-7731 7852), Publika (03-6201 0461), Viva Home (03- 9281 1633), Sutera Mall (Johor Baru, 07-554 2175), Cellini Home Gallery (Johor Baru, 07-251 0059) and Johor Jaya (Johor Baru, 07-535 6578).
