Pedal to the metal

-

VROOM vrroom vrrrrooooom! Scrrreeech! You hear that? That’s the sound of a car accelerating and its screeching tires.

Cars, also known as automobiles or vehicles, are large machines used to transport people and things from one place to another.

The steering wheel at the driver’s seat is to turn the car left or right. There are two foot pedals: the accelerator, which speeds up the car, and the brake, which slows it down. The gears control the car’s movement.

There are many different types of cars. Some are bigger, fancier and faster than others.

There are cars that families use to go to work, school and around the city or village. There are sports cars meant for fast driving and racing, and also for showing off their stylish designs.

There are lorries and vans meant for transporting big and heavy items. Offroad cars such as SUVs, four-wheel drives and even monster trucks are used for more extreme activities such as climbing boulders and steep cliffs, and driving through muddy swamps and bogs.

If you wish to drive a car, you need to take driving lessons and pass a test when you are much older. Driving a car is a lot of responsibility – you need to always be alert and careful.

Recently, we asked Starchild readers to send in their letters and drawings on the topic: My Dream Car. Let’s hear what they have to say.

Nicole Ong Hui Ting, nine, says, “My dream car is a flying car which can fly up to the sky.”

“My dream car is as colourful as a rainbow. It has two round doors. The sheep balloon above is my mother, and rabbit balloon is my daddy. This wonderful car will bring us all over the world for holidays!” Lee Xin Ning, five, says.

Natalie Ang XinYan, six, says, “I dreamed up my car. My car can do anything!”

Melany Lee, six, and Inesh Dhayal, seven, didn’t write anything about their cars, letting their drawings say it all.

ITEM: Bye-bye schoolbooks, hello fun time! Exams are nearly over, and the school holidays are almost here.

After a long term of (hopefully) hard studying, a long break is most welcome.

What do you plan to do during the holidays? Are you doing anything exciting? Is there anyone you want to spend time with?

Don’t forget to send us a drawing, too. All letters must include your full name, age (open to children aged 12 and below), gender, e-mail, phone number and address. Please write your name behind the drawing and the topic, School Holiday Fun, on the envelope. All letters must reach us by Dec 1.

Send your letters to:
