SHE hails from Sweden, but has been living in Malaysia for about 17 years. Her everyday wear designs make use of breathable fabric and feature unique printed patterns.

According to Caroline Wass, she has always loved fashion. Dressing up, coming up with her own style, mixing and matching colours – these are the things she enjoys doing.

“Carro offers lifestyle apparel for people who appreciate stylish and bold designs. Made for any age or gender, the pieces will appeal to those who love life and want to express themselves,” she states.

Wass, 36, explains that Carro is a nickname given to her by her late grandmother. The label’s debut collection, comprising polo and T-shirts, was showcased at the recent Malaysia Fashion Week 2017.

“I design apparels that I like. And I want to share this excitement and happiness with everyone else. My inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere,” she points out.

“The patterns are designed by me, which uses a special sublimation print technique to maintain a soft feel and lasting colours. Wicking fabric makes the pieces breathable, suitable for indoors and outdoors.”

Wass says that she absolutely loves Malaysia. It was when her father worked here that she decided to pursue her dream of being a designer and enrolled in a local fashion academy.

“I love the variety of cultures, the people and especially the food. Also being in Asia, I’m fortunate to be close by to all the amazing suppliers and manufactures, which is a dream come true for me.”

She notes that her Swedish heritage is part of everything she does and it defines her. It has taught her to be independent, as well as to dare to be different and try out new things.

“It has allowed me to be creative and find inspiration in everything I do, which reflects well in my designs and makes them really unique. This sets me apart from the rest.”

When asked, Wass says that she will be celebrating the holidays in Melaka this time around. She is looking forward to it, as she loves Christmas and thinks its the best time of the year.

“There are a few Swedish Christmas traditions that I have kept, like having loads of Swedish ginger thins, which I get from Ikea, opening Christmas presents on the 24th and watching Donald Duck’s Christmas special.

“And whenever I have the time, I cook some traditional Swedish Christmas food. I do miss the snow sometimes, but I’ve learned to appreciate the warm weather,” Wass concludes.
