THE cinema-watching experience just keeps getting better and better in Malaysia. Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) is partnering up with Seoul-headquartered CJ 4DPLEX to bring the innovative cinema technology 4DX into its halls.

In a press statement, Koh Mei Lee, CEO of Golden Screen Cinemas said: “As one of Malaysia’s leading cinema exhibitors, Golden Screen Cinemas is committed to innovating and diversifying our offerings to deliver new and enriching cinema experiences for customers.

“Our partnership with 4DX is the next step for us to bring to life the magic of cinema, as it intensifies the experience of the movies to be even more immersive, engaging, and meaningful than before.”

GSC – which operates a total of 404 screens in 47 locations across Malaysia and Vietnam – plans to introduce the 4DX theatre at the upcoming GSC Paradigm Mall Johor Baru as early as next year. Plans to bring this technology to other cinemas are in the pipeline.

CJ 4DPLEX is the world’s first 4D cinema company. 4DX uses motionactivated seats along with special effects including wind, fog and rain. This technology has been Koh (left) CEO of Golden Screen Cinemas with Jung-Hoon Cho, COO of CJ 4DPLEX at the ceremony for the signing of the MOU to bring 4DX to Malaysia, exclusively in GSC halls. GSC growing in cinemas worldwide, made available in countries including the United States, China, Chile, Japan and the United Arab Emirates.

Accordingly, filmmakers are looking into the 4DX format – which needs to be specially mastered. For the past eight years, some 460 Hollywood titles like Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Captain America: The Winter Soldier have been formatted for the 4D cinemas.

On its official website (cj4dplex. com), it describes the technology as such: “Each auditorium incorporates motion-based seating synchronised with more than 20 different effects ... maximising the feeling of immersion within the movie, beyond the limits of audio and video.”

Koh added: “We believe that 4DX, as one of the world’s leading technologies in premium cinematic entertainment, will transform the way Malaysians enjoy films at our cinemas, offering unforgettable sensory experiences you just can’t get at home.

“We look forward to a long and successful partnership with 4DX, as we aim to extend the 4D cinematic experience to movie-goers all over the country.” – Mumtaj Begum
