Journeying towards success

-

STUDENTS who have just completed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) will have to face another test to find an answer to their next step in education.

A selected few have already set their sights on the globally recognised four-semester Cambridge GCE A-Levels programme offered in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC).

Offered by the Centre for Pre-University Studies (CPUS) since 1987, TAR UC has built a strong reputation for providing an excellent A-Levels programme.

In every A-Levels examination sitting, TAR UC students have consistently registered an impressive pass percentage and a high percentage of students achieve excellent score. This is further reinforced when 72 students emerged as high achievers in the recent May/ June 2017 A-Levels and AS-Levels examinations, where the A-Levels cohort accumulated a 92% passing rate of which 23% achieved excellent score of AAB and above.

“Being generously equipped with many facilities amid lush hilly greenery, TAR UC provides a conducive study environment,” said Woon Le Yu who was awarded the Best Overall Performance Award for A-Levels (Science) and CPUS Top Achievement Cup for scoring 3A*s and 1A.

For Chong Kai Ling who scored 2A*s and 2As to top the A-Levels (Arts) stream, the key to TAR UC’s stellar A-Levels programme is its healthy competitive environment and encouragement to strive for perfection.

The programme is well supported by the talented, experienced and dedicated academic staff.

“We have a friendly academic team with a lot of experience in educating students. It is with this team that we are able to motivate the students to do well and the recent results are a reflection of our efforts,” said CPUS head, Yeoh Hock Seng.

Yeoh added that a bright future awaits successful graduates from TAR UC’s A-Levels programme regardless of their choice to head to a local or overseas university.

For example, former A-Levels students Valerie Sia and Khor John Ee were recently accepted into the prestigious Tsinghua University in China after being awarded scholarships from TAR UC Alumni Association (TAA).

On top of that, many TAR UC students who excelled in their respective A-Level examinations successfully gained admission in some of the best universities in the world such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), London School of Economics (LSE), University of Oxford, Australian National University, Imperial College London, National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, to name a few.

CPUS offers the Cambridge GCE A-Levels programme in Science and Arts streams, which is designed to develop in-depth understanding of subject matter, encourage independent learning and foster critical thinking, all prerequisites for success at undergraduate and even postgraduate studies.
