THIS year marks a momentous milestone as Matrade celebrates its 25th anniversary, commemorating more than two decades of service to existing exporters, new-to-export companies and the nation.

Malaysia and the rest of the world have gone through peaks and troughs of economic booms and downturns that affect trade.

Throughout the years, Matrade strove to remain relevant, adapting to changes in the way business is conducted and to the constant shifts in market demand.

It is committed to strengthening Malaysia’s core export sectors, such as electrical and electronics, downstream products of the palm oil industry and petroleum products, petrochemicals and the oil and gas industry.

It is also dedicated to expand and diversify its high-value, technology-driven sectors, which include the service-based industry, aerospace, automotive, creative and gaming industry, ICT, optical, medical and scientific devices and others.

Matrade reaches out to local Malaysian companies, extending support in several areas including advisory and technical assistance to overcome export barriers, help with market intelligence, identification of targets and access to foreign markets, support funding facilities for export exploration and promotion, and building export readiness.

Matrade organises various exporters development programmes and export promotion events.

Some of its signature exporters development programmes include the eTRADE Programme, Go-Ex Programme, Mid-Tier Companies Development Programme, Large Corporation and SME Partnership Programme as well as various general and highly focused exporter training programmes held throughout the year.

These programmes serve to enhance Malaysian companies to compete globally. To complement the capacity and competitiveness of the building programmes, Matrade provides export facilitation through its Market Development Grant (MDG) and the Services Export Fund (SEF).

The MDG is a form of reimbursable grant for participation in trade promotional activities, while SEF specifically supports Malaysian service providers in international market ventures.

SEF is extended in the form of reimbursable grants and soft loans.

Malaysian companies are encouraged to participate in Matrade’s various export promotion events to find buyers and to position their products internationally.

These events include trade fairs, trade and investment missions, international sourcing programmes and export acceleration missions.

Many of these trade promotion events culminate in a business matching session that helps generate new potential buyers for Malaysian companies.

With 47 global trade offices located in major cities all over the world, Matrade is well-placed to link local companies with potential business partners from over six continents.

Other facilities available at Matrade that Malaysian companies can leverage on are the renowned Business Information Centre – the most comprehensive trade library in the country, and Malaysia Export Exhibition Centre, Malaysia’s only permanent display centre under one roof for Malaysian products and services.

Matrade was established on March 1, 1993, as Malaysia’s official export development and promotion organisation, under the purview of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
