New Outback and XV with EyeSight tech

-

MOTOR Image, the exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles across nine countries in Asia, launched the new Outback and XV at the Singapore Motorshow 2018 last week.

The new Outback offers customers an experience of responsive handling and luxurious comfort with rugged exterior and refined plush interiors.

Built on the new Subaru Global Platform, the Subaru XV now comes equipped with EyeSight for improved safety levels.

“2018 marks another milestone for us as we introduce Subaru’s award-winning EyeSight technology in the region and we are excited to unveil the new Outback and XV here at the Singapore Motorshow,” said Tan Chong International managing director Glenn Tan.

The new Outback will be introduced to the Malaysian market in the second quarter of 2018 along with its new front bumper and hexagonal grille and lightweight turbine-shaped wheels.

It also comes equipped with STABLEX-Ride System for improved steering stability and ride quality as well as X-MODE to optimise the engine, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (S-AWD) and brakes - helping drivers traverse over most terrains.

Inside, improvements includes USB ports located in the back-centre console, additional microphones for better voice recognition response, a new 8.0-inch high-resolution infotainment system with smartphone connectivity which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Outback’s engine uses an improved 2.5-litre boxer engine with a new alternator to help improve fuel economy and has helped to shave 8% off the vehicle’s weight.

It also uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) with seven virtual gears when in manual mode.

The CVT now uses a short pitch chain to reduce noise levels from entering the cabin while also helping to improve fuel efficiency by about 3% compared to its predecessor.

For safety, in addition to EyeSight, the Outback has been fitted with steering responsive headlights and cameras on the front grille and side mirrors.

The Outback now comes in new colours of Wilderness Green Metallic, Crimson Red Pearl and Oak Brown Pearl.

As for the XV, which now comes with Eyesight driver assist technology, it now adds a 2.0i-S variant with a 156PS output to the existing 1.6-litre variant cur- rently available in Singapore.

Throttle response has also been revamped to provide better feel of acceleration.

As for key features, it also gets the Japanese carmaker’s symmetrical allwheel drive system which comes with X-MODE, a set of 18-inch wheels and steering responsive headlights.

The 2.0-litre Boxer Engine has been revamped, making the new engine approximately 12kg lighter and the CVT Lineartronic transmission provides 7.8kg of additional weight savings while providing an auto-step shift control and seven-speed manual mode function.

“Both Outback and XV models are now equipped with EyeSight and we are confident that they will exceed expectations and deliver an unparalleled driving experience,” added Tan. - JAY WONG
