Sharpen your focus

-

DO you ever ask yourself, “Where did the time go?” in the middle of a semester?

Organising your time is important but before that, it is worth checking whether you are unintentionally sabotaging your productivity. Here are some common ways you might become distracted from your study goals.

Fixating on small matters

It is nice to do well at everything, but if you have limited time, it makes more sense to put the most effort into the assignments that carry the most weight in terms of marks.

Work out at the beginning of the semester what you need to do and how much each piece of work counts towards your end grade. Ultimately, focus your energy on the things that really matter.

Taking on too many activities

While it is important to have fun and to learn soft skills from activities such as debating, do not overload yourself with commitments that take away your study time. Take a look at your non-essential activities and cut out time eaters that do not contribute to your learning goals.

Not setting your study scene

To get good work done, you need a quiet space with all the resources you need and enough time to get into what you are doing.

If you try to get things done in a coffeeshop, you will be distracted by external noise.

So, create your own workspace, gather the tools you need, switch off your phone and make studying a productive activity.
