Be the best you can be

-

LAST month, Nexus International School Malaysia had the honour of welcoming Will Hodson – better known as Super Cycling Man – to its campus as he checked Malaysia off his list of countries to visit.

Super Cycling Man had set out on a mission in 2015 to become the first person to cycle across all seven continents, starting with London.

More importantly, he hopes to inspire young children around the world to be “small superheroes doing quiet deeds”.

Inspired by a children’s superhero book titled Max, Super Cycling Man found the message of the book to be positive and one that he felt should be instilled in children from an early age.

During his visit to Nexus, Super Cycling Man had the opportunity to hold a meetandgreet session with some of the students, during which he spoke about how anyone can be a superhero without having to wear a cape.

Little things, such as being kind to others, being resilient and dreaming big, can go a long way in helping you become the best version of yourself.

Nexus hopes to instil some of Super Cycling Man’s traits in its students.

The school does that by providing a nurturing and supportive environment in which the students can succeed academically and mature as individuals.

Alongside that is the philosophy of personalising the learning and teaching that happens in the school.

To that end, the Nexus Way was founded and forms the quintessential foundation that teachers and students adhere to achieve this balance.

The Nexus Way has four pillars: mindset, innovation, relationships, and inclusion.

Some key values Super Cycling Man shared with the students

Nexus practises a personalised approach to teaching and learning, allowing students and teachers to build a strong relationship with one another.

included dreaming big, being resilient and being kind to others.

These values ring closely with the Nexus Way of having students become academic achievers and globally responsible citizens.

Having the right mindset and being innovative are what drives students to be mentally stronger, smarter and more adaptable to their surroundings and with the resources they have.

On the other hand, to be globally minded and respectful of other cultures and communities are paramount, too.

Nexus practises a personalised approach to teaching and learning, allowing students and teachers to build a strong relationship with one another.

In turn, it creates a sense of inclusivity among themselves.

Nexus is much more than the Nexus Way alone and parents and children are always welcomed to learn more.

The school will be having its first open day of 2018 from Jan 2527.
