Focus on talent
THE university is not only a place to learn and acquire knowledge, but also a place to highlight the talents and ideas of its students.
It is important for students to choose a field of study that interests them in an institution that provides a wholesome and well-rounded experience.
This is precisely what the students of Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute (UniKL MSI) experience when their ideas are highlighted and recognised at an international level.
A team of UniKL MSI students won the gold medal at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2017 held at COEX Korea Exhibition Centre, South Korea, from Nov 30 to Dec 3, 2017.
As one of the world’s largest international invention fairs, SIIF 2017 saw the participation of delegates from 30 countries.
A total of 630 pieces of inventions were showcased from countries including Poland, Malaysia, France, the United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yemen, Ghana, Japan, Lebanon, China, Egypt, Germany, Vietnam, Singapore, Russia, Croatia, India, Iran, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico and Uzbekistan.
Three students from UniKL MSI, under the supervision of senior lecturer Mohd Riduan Ibrahim, won the gold medal for their invention of “Fire Hose Winding Devices”, which they called EZ Reel.
The function of EZ Reel is to improve the winding process of fire hoses, cables, ropes and the like. It can also be used to remove excess water while cleaning the hose.
This device not only simplifies the process of rolling out a fire hose, but also has a great impact on work that requires speed and ease.
The project was a collaboration between UniKL MSI and Kulim Hi-Tech Park’s Fire and Rescue Department.
UniKL MSI’s team also won the silver medal for the project “Rubber Tapping Automatic Machine” or MeMGA.
The product was designed to help rubber tappers increase rubber production and generate more income.
It is designed to cut the rubber tree skin more quickly and effectively without disfiguring the stem.
The UniKL MSI team’s international achievement demonstrates its students’ ability to produce quality and innovative products, comparable with other products in the market.
It also reflects UniKL’s steadfast commitment to conducting the latest studies for the needs of the community.
Its campus, located at Kulim Hi-Tech Park, specialises in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical and electronics engineering.
Since 2002, UniKL MSI has collaborated with the Spanish government for transfer of technology in engineering and industrial areas, offering comprehensive diploma and bachelor programmes.
Learning at UniKL MSI, which emphasises skills and practical aspects, provides students with knowledge of producing products and ideas that they can commercialise.
UniKL places priority on quality education and the importance of learning experiences to produce holistic graduates.
Apart from incorporating international and multi-cultural exposure in the students’ learning experiences, extensive industrial training components and personal enrichment competency elements are also blended into the programme of study to ensure the graduates’ employability.
Graduates from UniKL are also popular among employers and industries.
