MALAYSIA is seeing increasing demand in the area of medical laboratory technology (MLT).

Career opportunities await graduates in numerous industries such as hospitals, clinics, public health laboratories, pharmaceutical or chemical industries, biotechnology companies, veterinary clinics, public or private research laboratories, colleges and universities, transplant and blood donor centres as well as fertility clinics.

Even though they do not often communicate directly with patients, medical laboratory technologists play a crucial role in the process of providing personal care.

It is an ideal occupation for highly organised people who can perform research that helps unravel the mysteries of the human body.

The Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology offered by the Management and Science University (MSU) College is designed to cater to students who are interested in scientific discoveries and medical research.

It prepares students with theoretical knowledge combined with hands-on practical skills to enhance their education.

The programme also provides a comprehensive educational experience in all levels of laboratory medicine, including hematology, microbiology, parasitology, transfusion medicine, cytology and chemical pathology.

The three-year programme aims to produce medical laboratory technologists who are competent and capable of meeting the human capital needs of the country.

They perform tests that help physicians diagnose, monitor and treat disease, identify the source of infection, analyse chemicals and determine the

MLTs also provide numerous diagnostic and therapeutic information, which is useful to the healthcare team.

At MSU College, students will gain a holistic learning experience to build soft skills and develop critical thinking.

This is to produce versatile MLT graduates who are equipped with adequate knowledge and skills.

Upon completion, students may proceed to a Bachelor’s programme at MSU through the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences or International Medical School (IMS).

Another opportunity for students is the progression to the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programme through IMS either in Shah Alam campus or in MSU’s offshore campus in Bangalore, India.
