Purr-fectly adorable pets

-

Do you know Puss in Boots, Garfield or the cat from Dr Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat?

These are the cats in popular children’s books and a comic strip.

Puss in Boots – based on a fairy tale – is a cat known for distracting his enemies with his “cute kitten” looks.

Garfield, a comic character by Jim Davis, is known for his obsession with food, especially lasagna.

Dr Seuss’ famous cat in the red and white striped hat is fun and beloved by children.

As adorable as these cat characters are, we love cats best as pets.

I bet many of us are cat lovers, and have one or two or even more of these soft furballs at home.

Are you a big fan of cats? If yes, which are some of your favourite breeds? We love all breeds of cats, such as Calico, Siamese, Tabby and Tonkinese.

Do you know cats have different personalities, just like humans? The Abyssinian cats are known for their arrogance and strong sense of confidence. Siamese cats, on the other hand, are mischievous. Regardless of their personality, cats are popular with children and adults because many regard cats as their good friends.

Recently, we asked Starchild readers to send in letters on the topic: Cats. Let’s hear what they have to say.

Lara Alisha Colin, 11, is a No.1 cat lover. She loves all types of cat breeds including Siamese, Tabby, and Calico. “My father has promised to buy me a cat if I do well in this year’s final exam. I love cats because they are adorable and friendly. When I’m older I’d like to be a veterinarian so I can care for animals, especially cats and dogs.”

Eleven-year-old Darren Chan knows a lot about cats. “Cats have flexible bodies adapted for hunting prey. A group of cats is referred to as a clowder. Also, a male cat is

called a Tom, a female cat a Molly while a young cat is referred to as a kitten.” Seven-year-old Sharveneswaran

Logeiswaran owns an old cat called Grandpa. “Grandpa likes to play with balls and has his own sleeping box.”

Inesh Dhayal, seven, loves his pet cat, Riley. “Riley is orange, brown, and yellow in colour. She also has powerful vision at night.”

“My cat is very tame and is called Macky. He has caught rats and mice and a few birds in our garden too,” says six-yearold Melany Lee. Phoebe Toh Sue Yi, seven, adores the cat in Dr Seuss’ A Cat In The Hat and in the animated television series, The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That! “I like Cat because he is such a funny cat. I enjoy watching all the episodes of him.” Seven-year-old Melissa Mae Ganesh adores cats and has a collection of cat

stamps. “These stamps send the message that these felines should be appreciated and loved by all.”

Janelle Tan YuWen, eight, does not have a pet cat, but she knows the various species. “I have seen pictures of different breeds of cats and I am amazed at the variety of cats.”

Natalie Ang XinYan, six, imagines her dream cat in rainbow colours. “A rainbow-coloured cat will make me happy.”

Seven-year-old Tan Li Ren likes playing fetch with her pet cat. “I named her Kitty because she is small and playful.”
