Too close for comfort

IT’S definitely a case of art imitating life on the new sitcom, 9JKL. Mark Feuerstein says the series is inspired by the time he moved next door to his parent’s apartment unit while filming Royal Pains in New York. “So every morning my father would come in in his tighty-whities (and say), ‘Mark, what do you want for breakfast? Do you want eggs? Do you want French toast?’ And at night, after a 15-hour day of shooting, my mother would be waiting by the door like a gunslinger in a nightgown (and say), ‘Would you like to come in for a salad?’... And then for a period of two years, my brother, his wife and his baby were living in the apartment on the other side. So it was like a Feuerstein sandwich,” the Los Angeles based actor tells CBS This Morning. In 9JKL, protagonist Josh Roberts (Feuerstein) finds himself in this exact predicament and tries to set up some personal boundaries. David Walton (pic), who plays Josh’s brother, talks to TV Insider about basing his character on Feuerstein’s real-life brother. “There’s an inspirational point at the pilot, but ultimately the minute I got hired, there was zero percent going back to trying to figure out what the real brother is like. I don’t think the real brother is nearly as vain as my character has turned out to be. I don’t know what they see in me. I don’t consider myself all that vain, but clearly I don’t know myself all that well!” 9JKL airs every Monday at 9.35pm on Foxlife HD (Astro Ch 722).
