Get yourself organised and declutter your home
ARE you snowed under by clutter?
Is so much stuff piled onto your furniture that you cannot remember what colour your coffee table was?
Do you have to move odds and ends off the bed before you can sleep in it?
If so, then it is time to declutter your home and your life.
Should the task before you look discouragingly mammoth, do not lose heart. And don’t get overwhelmed.
Just pick one small corner and focus only on that one small area.
Do not get distracted by any other clutter elsewhere.
Choose that small corner to create a single oasis of calm to begin with – whether you have picked a tabletop to declutter, or a cupboard, or a cabinet.
Just remove from that one spot everything that is not supposed to be in it or on it, and clear enough space for you to work at or work from.
At this initial stage, it does not matter what you do with the things that you move away from your first oasis of calm – whether you toss them out, squeeze them into some other place or recycle them.
The important thing is to reclaim that corner first, and not to allow anything that does not belong there to creep back into it. Keep it tidy and clear.
It will be a visual and practical inspiration for you, to show you what it looks and feels like to reclaim some space, as you move on to the next area.
With the next spot you choose to declutter, however, you will have to start deciding what you are going to do with the things that do not belong in it. That can be the toughest part of any decluttering mission. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
