Dance floor love story

- By ANGELIN YEOH entertainment@thestar.com.my

THREE years ago at a club in Berlin, Germany, Miriam Bryant met someone on the dance floor and fell in love. While the relationship didn’t last, the singer got something out of it – the inspiration for her latest pop ditty Black Car. The song is included in her eight-track EP Bye Bye Blue released in 2017.

Bryant co-wrote the song with friends Victor Raadstroem and Jamie Hartman. It wasn’t difficult for the Finnish-British singer to pour out her emotions into that particular song.

“Black Car was the result of a bad relationship. I had strong feelings about (the relationship) so it was easy to let the emotion flow when writing the song.

“For me, it’s a reminder of better things to come after the end of a relationship. I believe it has a timeless meaning, something that a lot of people can relate to,” she said in a phone interview from, incidentally, Berlin.

Based in Sweden, Bryant made her debut as a singer in 2011 with Swedish pop songs as a her forte. She has also released Find You (2014), a collaboration with Grammy-winning producer Zedd.

Now, Bryant is ready to make her mark on the international music scene. She turned 27 on the day of the interview and celebrated the day with “champagne and cake”. The affable singer is optimistic about her future.

“I’m happy. I want to focus on my international music career and hopefully be able to put out more new songs.”
