It Is real. It is here. And it’s ready to be part of your life in a smart home.

this is a scenario that doesn’t need imagination anymore: You’re about to head home after a long day at work. Ah, a nice cool beer would be just the thing to take the edge off the stress. But wait a minute, is there any left in the fridge?

to be sure, you turn to your phone, click on the SmartThings app and literally look into your samsung Family Hub refrigerator to see its contents. Not even one can left – you had forgotten to add beer to your shopping list curated on the fridge display.

After a quick stop at the store, you’re home and you plan to put up your feet once you sort out your dinner.

You’ve got a choice of a frozen pizza or a plate of nasi lemak. You decide you could do with fewer calories, so you hover your phone over both the options and the calorie count pops up on your display. the info is then transferred to the fridge display which has an app that tells you what you need for your body weight and height. Ok the pizza wins.

“Bixby, heat up the oven,” you tell your smart voice-powered AI (artificial intelligence) assistant.

You then turn on the tV and it’s football night. A few minutes later, you pop your pizza into the oven, take a quick shower, dump a pile of dirty laundry into the washing machine and you’re ready for a tV dinner.

“Bixby, turn on the air-conditioning, dim the lights.”

After you’ve burned some calories rooting for your team, it’s time to do the dishes. then you remember your dirty laundry. At the touch of the screen on the fridge, you start the wash.

then back to the couch for your favourite tV show. But you doze off mid-way.

“Bixby, i’m going to continue watching the show in my room.” You enter the bedroom and the tV there is on and you miss nothing. And just before you call it a night, you ask: “Bixby, what’s my schedule like tomorrow?”

Welcome to the world of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, where devices and products “talk” to each other to offer multiple services. With an integrated internet of things (iot) strategy and Ai, activating machines is as easy as flipping a switch or giving a voice command.

At the recent Samsung Forum in Rome, Samsung demonstrated just how seamlessly the three core elements of its iot strategy – SmartThings app, Smartthings Cloud and the Ai-based Bixby voice assistant – support its latest appliances and products.

in a walk through of a simulated home, members of the media as well as buyers were shown how devices – from fridge and washing machine to tV and phone – were connected with each other to make life easy, convenient and time-efficient (pic).

And how Bixby’s intelligent voice interface allowed tasks to be handled with a quick command.

Last year, Samsung unveiled its Project Ambience, a prototype dongle with a chip and microphone that could be placed in devices – or even attached to tables and chairs – for quick access to the Ai assistant.

With Ambience-connected objects placed throughout a house, it is converted into a smart home where any command to Bixby is picked up by the nearest device.
