Maintain garments in its original shape

-

IF you’re not a fashionista, you may not really think much about clothes hangers.

However, if you invest in the right ones, you can save yourself some ironing, maximise your storage space and keep your clothes in better shape.

1) One size does not fit all If you’re tall, little hangers will only support three-quarters of your tops, leaving the rest of the material dragging down.

This pulls the garment out of shape and eventually damages it.

If you’re a tall lady, look at the hangers for boy’s stuff.

2) Look for swizzle tops A hanger isn’t just for the closet. Consider that you may want to hang it from the back of a chair, from a laundry rack or stuff it in a case.

As such, pick one with a moveable hook.

3) Rounded tips Sharp angles will put “hooks” into soft material, so look for broad hangers with rounded tips. They’re usually more expensive but as they last years if not decades, it’s worth the few extra ringgit.

4) Clips and rails are brilliant for delicate tops Very light material like chiffon is so easily damaged, that you might consider either clipping the shoulders and then hanging it or folding it double and then using a wooden rail hanger intended for trousers.

5) Use clip hangers to drip dry wash-and-wear clothes Wet material is easily pulled out of shape by moulded hangers, so you can use clip hangers to dry small items. If you do it neatly and give them lots of space, you may be able to avoid ironing too.

6) Use specialty scarf hangers with holes to keep silk unsnagged and for an excellent presentation As we live in a damp tropical climate, go for wood rather than coloured velvet that may streak.

Tip: These are also great for holding braces and belts, especially if you have lots of them.
