Opening doors to the business world
THE Professional Accountancy Centre (PAC) at KDU College, set up in 2008, offers the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) courses.
Within a year, it was awarded the Gold status and is now celebrating the sixth year of being awarded Platinum status Approved Learning Partner by ACCA.
The CAT qualification provides fundamental knowledge and technical skills to fulfil an accounting role at a specialist level.
It is awarded by ACCA and globally recognised.
The programme provides a fast track towards becoming a qualified accountant. Most students can complete CAT within a year and continue with the ACCA programme for another two years.
Addressing a common misconception, ACCA affiliates Chin Chee Liang said: “ACCA isn’t specifically for aspiring accountants. This course has taught me about management of finances, law and taxation, to mention a few. Most importantly, it opens up a global career full of possibilities.”
Those interested will be glad to know that ACCA’s unique partnership with Oxford Brookes University allows them to obtain a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Applied Accounting upon completion of the ACCA Fundamentals Level, ACCA Ethics and Professional Skills Module and passing a Research and Analysis Project.
Moving forward with recent changes to the ACCA qualification, KDU’s ACCA Programme prepares and facilitates students to acquire the full range of competencies financial professionals need with an emphasis on technical knowledge, cognitive capabilities and soft skills.
Classroom lessons are complemented with guest lectures by industry leaders and additional programmes.
The specially designed Employability Enhancement Programmes comprise communication skills enrichment, business simulation programmes and audit software and simulation programmes to equip students with prerequisite skills indispensable to professional level studies while also enhancing their employability. There are also opportunities to attend free accounting software training.
“Lecturers here are approachable and willing to help even after class ends. PAC also organises various fun activities. I get to meet new friends and it has improved my interpersonal skills,” said Lee Yoke Kei, who succeeded in passing all ACCA papers.
Another student who completed his ACCA in KDU, Tham Kian Fei added: “Besides acquiring technical knowledge from the class, club activities and external competitions have exposed me to the world offcampus and enhanced my realworld skills.”
Tham said he treasures his student days in KDU, not only for the solid academic knowledge and foundation but also the extra cocurricular experience as part of the PAC Club committee.
PAC students are encouraged to join the PAC Club to learn more about planning, facilitating, managing and leading in events or activities.
This helps to not only build rapport and camaraderie but also equips students with skills to be better prepared to join the workforce.
The CAT school programme intake is in progress. SPM schoolleavers who wish to apply for the scholarship can fill up the online application form at https://goo.gl/ forms/QsD3Kgq8p8F7kbY72 before March 24.
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to attend the interview on March 27.
