Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

HBO, Astro Ch 411/HD Ch 431, midnight Fans of the series might purse their lips so much out of annoyance with this “finale” that they should have called it The Final Chapstick instead. Alice (Milla Jovovich) returns to Raccoon City to finish off Umbrella Corporation for good, but clones, zombies, mutated dogs, a group of clueless survivors and a traitor complicate matters. And after all that ... it’s still not over. Also starring Iain Glen, Ali Larter and Shawn Roberts.

Tremors

Cinemax, Astro Ch 412, 9.25pm

Speaking of franchises that never seem to end, here’s the 1990 unheralded hit that spawned four direct-to-video follow-ups, with a fifth due out this year, and a 2003 TV series. Country slackers Val (Kevin Bacon) and Earl (Fred Ward) face giant maneating worms that are menacing the abandoned mining town of Perfection, Nevada. Armed only with their wits – aw heck, that’s an unfair fight on paper – they must save the townfolk and a pretty seismologist from becoming worm food. Also starring Finn Carter, Michael Gross (who would go on to appear in every Tremors follow-up and the TV show), Reba McEntire and Victor Wong. If only they could get Bacon and Ward back for one of these follow-ups. But that won’t be Tremors: A Cold Day In

A May-September romance ensues, along with complications when the student’s older cousin turns out to be the novelist’s former crush from her schooldays! Starring Yan Ni and Du Tianhao, this 2017 China film is based on the South Korean manhwa (comic) Botox.
