Career platform for aspiring gamers
Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) has launched its academy of esports Iskandar Puteri (aOEs), the first full-fledged esports academy in Malaysia.
With an investment of more than rM2mil, aOEs offers certification-level education for aspiring gamers and game developers, taking the future of esports in Malaysia to another level.
The establishment of the academy is also in line with Johor’s visionary quest to be at the forefront of the new Millennial Economy, where opportunities and skills arise from the technology revolution.
IIB president and chief executive officer datuk khairil anwar ahmad said the establishment of aOEs was a great advantage for all Malaysians, as this was the first step in positioning Iskandar Puteri as the esports hub of south-East asia.
“The announcement made by His Majesty sultan Ibrahim Ibni almarhum sultan Iskandar on the change of the city status for Iskandar Puteri on nov 22, 2017, was a much welcomed trigger for the new aOEs as it gears up to spot Malaysian talents to be polished and professionally trained right here on our grounds,” khairil said.
He added that as the “Catalyst of Change” for Iskandar Malaysia, the development of aOEs was a perfect fit for IIB, which aims to make Iskandar Puteri the preferred destination for sports, education, lifestyle, investments and careers.
“With the establishment of aOEs, we foresee producing a surge of esports experts in the near future,” he said.
The one-of-its-kind academy kicked off with a week-long, complimentary dota 2 Training Bootcamp in October 2017, with more than 100 gamers taking part.
The bootcamp was a prelude for would-be students of the academy to experience and learn the training routine of professional dota 2 players through the development of a winning mindset of insights, inspiration, advice and tools – crucial elements that improve their winning chances in the next tournament.
as the academy offers programmes that have been endorsed and recognised by experienced players and coaches, it serves as a great platform for esports enthusiasts in terms of career pathways, giving them the opportunity to look beyond being just professional gamers.
Future students will be able to work on their gaming techniques as the bootcamp will aid them in developing soft skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, strategic planning, teamwork, conflict management and communication skills.
aOEs is currently holding fulltime classes from Monday to Friday. For more information, log on to http://www.academyofesports.com.my/
since its inception in 2006, IIB has played its role as a catalytic developer by building landscape-changing projects that have transformed Iskandar Malaysia into an investment heaven and a vibrant, liveable city.
although the expected maturity of the region is only in 2025, IIB has already introduced several iconic brands in Iskandar Puteri such as the Legoland Malaysia resort (asia’s first Lego theme and water park), EduCity (a fully integrated education hub and the first of its kind in asia) and various infrastructure projects under the ninth Malaysia plan such as the Coastal Highway, the Medini north Interchange and the Coastal Highway southern Link.
These high-impact projects have put Iskandar Malaysia on maps that matter and have significantly increased investors’ appetite for this robust economic region.
